Question Re: NVNews Widescreen LCD Club (formally DELL thread)

Hi everybody.

I have a Dell Latitude D800, with widescreen display. Yesterday I updated my Fedora installation, compiled the last NVidia drivers under the new kernel. Everything worked fine, except that the maximum resolution I'm getting now is 1024*768, even tough the machine is capable of 1280*768.

Basically, I'm wasting the widescreen capability of my portable PC.

Can anyone help me ?

Thanks.

Well I got 1440x900 listed as a resolution now for all games that support widescreen. I had to add a custom resolution into the nvidia driver control panel. But at least it makes things look right. I tried adding smaller resolutions like 1280x800 and 960x600 but they don't appear in game. I might have to try again later. But so far 1440x900 seems to be a very acceptable size/preformance spot for the 6800GT but I'll have to try it again later when I can actually sit down and play titan quest for a while.

I'm getting dual 19" wide screens (Viewsonic) next week. I was torn between these and the 2407. I love DUAL montiors though, and I really can't afford dual 2407s.

This is not the place for questions. Try the Linux forum here.

And I am now a proud member of the NVNews Widescreen Club! The one on the left is an older 17" Samsung 712N while the one on the right is my new 20.1" ViewSonic VX2025WM. Some day I'm going to go back and game on the 17" just to give myself a better appreciation for how nice the widescreen is, but for now I'm just enjoying it.

Hanns-G HU151 15" Black/Silver LCD - 1024x768 SVGA - 12ms Response, 2x 2W Speakers, 250cd/m2 Brightness, 600:1 Contrast, Analogue

I'm a noob when it comes to LCDs. Could some please explain the difference between the bolded specs of these two monitors. BTW, both are priced exactly the same.

The slower response time is giving more vibrant colors/brightness while the faster one will lessen the chances of ghosting.

Are you on a tight budget? Those two don't seem to be that great.
