Finally bought a Dell 2007WFP. IPS panel. Quick responce. ZERO banding under Desktop mode. I've returned several LCD's over the last two years because they weren't up to my standards.

I found one that finally did. It is a damn sweet monitor.

Have you watched dvd's on it yet? If you have how are the blacks and is there any backlight bleeding?

Sweet! I might pick one up this week and use my Sceptre as a TV.

Why argue which ones better when you can just play on all of them?

There's a faint bit in the top corners and just a small hint in the bottom right. Very, very minimal. The backlight is very uniform, though. Just as dark on one side as the other.

No DVD's yet, but I did watch some of those WMV HD trailers on it. All look very, very damn good. I watch TV on it ( I have 2 tuners and WMV). Looks fantastic. Better than my CRT's by far.

Black levels are VERY good, especially for an IPS panel and just in general. Its a bit sensative to lights. The darks are just a bit muddied if its very bright in the room. I have a 5 headed light with 100w bulbs in it less than a foot and a half away and it gets a bit tough to see them with it on. With "normal" indoor lighting I can see details in Quake 4 and D3 better than my CRTs.

For reference, I have a Samsung 17' CRT and a Samsung 19" 997 CRT. I've ran stuff in windows and dragged from the Dell over to the 19" for direct comparison and I can't find ANYTHING that looks better on the CRT...

Except for banding in Gaming and Entertainment mode and ONLY when I'm running montest on ONE test. Then its pretty bad... but Desktop mode is SO good I have no reason to run the other modes. I have tried them both in Oblivion and basically they crank up the contrast...they look pretty good but it feels like cheating because the shadowed areas are so bright. Desktop mode FTW.

I tried a random Samsung LCD a year ago and was HIGHLY dissapointed. It was 8ms responce and an 8 bit panel supposedly...but damn. It blurred like hell in UT2k4.

About a month ago I bought the reviered Samsung SyncMaster 215TW 1680x1050. Highly dissapointed. PVA panels are HORRIBLE IMO. I like to look at my monitor straight on...and you just lose waaay too many colors and detail in darkness with those panels, this monitor especially.

One other BIG difference between that Samsung and this dell. The 215tw had horrible input lag. I could split a window between my CRT and the LCD and drag it up and down and it was like watching that dance that stupid people do when they lock thier hands and make thier arms do a wave. With the Dell its just like doing the same exercise with CRTs. I'm sure there is probably some lag, but it is definetly not bad at all.

All and all, its a damn good monitor. I didn't have high end CRT's, but I don't think I'd go back after this monitor.

IPS panels for the win, btw.

I would take some pics and do so more tests but this Friday my girlfriends appartment/dorm complex caught fire in a very bad lightning storm. I had some stuff over there and its been very hectic. The school has her and others up in a damn hotel for the year now....another story though....

I hope you guys don't mind me asking this here but I'm thinking of buying an LCD monitor from NewEgg. Do they ship them double boxed? I'd hate for the UPS guy to leave a box in front of my house that clearly has the manufacturer's name and a picture of the LCD monitor on it.

It depends on how big the monitor box is. Usually Newegg will sends out larger items in the original manufacturers box.

Ah thanks for the replies, guys. The monitor I'm thinking of getting is the Philips 230WP7NS. It's been guessed by a few people to be using an AS-IPS panel without the overdrive. Guess this one won't be shipped double boxed. I better leave work early or hope they deliver it late. None of you guys know where I live right?

Hi, first post here.

I'm looking into buying my first LCD screen, and I really want it to be a widescreen. So I went to Newegg and I found this one, the Hanns·G HW-191DPB Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor, mainly because it is a steal at the $179.99 price.

But, will my Geforce4 Mx440se graphics card support the widescreen resolution of 1440x900?

Just picked up the Westy 22" from Best Buy at a sweet price with employee discount!

I'm not a master at dual display but I just did "Clone" to test out the quality of the 2 monitors...The Westy really sticks out compared to the Sceptre!

(Dont make fun of the VAIO, its a temporary PC untill my mobo and CPU come!) It has a Geforce 4 Ti4200 in it, the Westinghouse is connected DVI and the Sceptre is VGA.

And...my new PC parts that are just waiting for a mobo/cpu!
