My Jan Rev A01 replacement 2005FPW is just as bad as the Dec Rev A00 model. I do not recommend this flat panel for movie viewing or gaming. The backlight leakage and black level issues are just to great to really enjoy this screen. I might go Dr. Nicks route and get another 2001FP.

I'm starting to regret selling my VP201s

O btw, I took some pics earlier but they were very inaccurate in showing the slight blk/wht contrast on the monitors so it wouldn't of done any good to post 'em, plus they kept coming out blurry.

Rip, after a few days of use, has yours gotten any better or worse? Just curious.
Send me one and I will finish breaking it in for you. Tough work, but that's the kinda guy I am...

You gonna sell the one's you don't keep or just send 'em back? How's Dell been with the returns? If I ever get a shot at a mega-coupon deal, I'll probably do it and return if it starts to bleed.

Also, have you tried recalibrating to turn down the brightness and limit blomming?

Gee you're so thoughtful

Going through the return process with Dell is on par with the same level of ease you'd find returning something to Wal-mart, all it takes is some patience. After the Customer Rep realizes you've been building pc's since you were 12, he shuts up with the generic troubleshooting tips and processes your RMA request. The replacements are then shipped (same day) ground from a whse in your region (mine is Nashville) which essentially turns into an overnight delivery.

Stay on the look out for deals cause there's coupons floating around the web almost daily.

Gonna try recalibrating tonight and see if that helps. I'm still shocked at the older one though cause the backlighting on it seemed to even out itself over the course of the last couple weeks.

Where exactly are these coupons? I know it's kind of a weak question i kinda search for it on google and it looks like they all expired haha. It looks like I missed out on the hella good deals, but is there a specific place where you search for coupons on the 2005fp?

Right now I have a Viewsonic P95F+ CRT (native: 1600x1200 85mhz) and its great and I've been tempted by this LCD b/c I'll be going to college this coming year and I need something to save space while not loosing image quality. (who wants that? )

Also, if I go to the 2005fp, is there a list somewhere of games that actually support widescreen? (is it just a resolution change is it usually just chosen from a in-game menu?) Sorry new to the whole widescreen gaming. Thanx in advance

Welp! Nevermind I found a site that has em,
http://www.xpbargains.com/dell_coupons/index.php/deals
It looks like they watch the deals everyday, now its time to wait...

Can't say yet. I'm still out of town right now. I got to use it for one day and then had to leave on business.

After running it for about 6-7 hours that first day there were still no dead pixels. There was still some backlight bleed in the upper right corner. As far as how bad it was, probably comparable to the screenshot that was posted further back up in the thread. I'm not quite as picky as some so that level of bleed doesn't really bother me much.

After using a 2001FP for quite some time, here are the pros/cons IMO. The 200FPW has no screendoor problem and mine came without any dead pixels so far. My 2001FP had better backlighting but with the screendoor issue and a couple dead pixels. To me, it's about an even trade overall. I don't consider one to truly be superior to the other overall.

We'll see if my impression changes after I've had more time to play around with this display. They do often seem to need a little while to burn in fully.

Good links guys, was just gonna post a couple of those

I left the Jan A01 rev LCD on all last night to burn in (set screensaver to 'blank') and its seem to help the backlighting enough to the point where its almost tolerable. Another thing that helps as Brian mentioned earlier in this thread was to use a THX calibration video test to calibrate brightness & contrast levels for optimal DVD viewing. (ie - Pirates of Carribean SE DVD) Another tip is to try turning the brightness within the OSD all the way down to 0 and just adjusting the color settings within the drivers.

Seems like the initial enthusiasm has kind of cooled down with some of you. Do you regret buying the display now?

Well, I broke down and got a flat panel, but not the 2005FPW. I got a killer deal on a Samsung 712N and I am going to use it with my older 19" CRT as a secondary display. I plan to get a laptop for the kitchen/living room, so the second monitor will end up with a KVM switch to flip to the laptop when docked.

No widescreen for now, but a 12ms, 600:1, 300cd/m2 for well under $300 is pretty sweet. Plus, I plan on hitting a few LANs so this will be quite portable.

I did end up learning quite a bit about what to look for so this has been a helpful thread...
