also, i get weird horizontal lines at 1920x1200 with the 360 VGA cable (my PC image is beautiful) i moved the res down one notch and it looks crisper and cleaner and richer color. you can check it out when you come home.
Vin, try lowering the sharpness down and see if that works. I had to do that on both the Gateway and Dell 24".

Last night I bought a Gateway FPD2285W 22" LCD from Best-Buy....the thing drove me nuts, I fought(only way to describe it) the monitor for hours trying to tune it in....no matter what I did games were either washed out or over black, then going back to the desktop, required more adjustment. I've never had to touch the controlls of my Dell 2005FPW and it looks SO mch better. I decided to return the Gateway and purchased another Dell the 22" E228WFP its $130 less than the retail Gateway and should be an actual "upgrade" from a 2005FPW

Yea, I had both the 22" and 24" Gateway and I found that I always was trying to adjust it also. Just never could get it right. Especially the 22". Also I felt like no matter what I did both were always just to bright. The Gateways were plagued with other issues that I think I mentioned here somewhere.

Now the Dell 2407 on the otherhand I haven't even tuned except for turning the brightness down through the monitors OSD. Which worked unlike the Gateways. Everything else looks fine to me out of the box as far as colors and everything goes.

To be fair though I'm not totally happy with the Dell. I am sending this one back due to what I find to be a little to much backlight bleed in the upper righthand corner. It flares out and is just bright enough to catch my eye. I've read to many posts of people saying they have no backlight bleed so I don't think this is normal on this particular model. I also have a single stuck(maybe dead) pixel, the first I have seen on any monitors. So reguardless, at $700 I think I'm intitled for an exchange. Which is on its way.

But overall I'm extremly happy with the dell. Everything works as advertised. Picture is the best by far out of the monitors I tried. What I have learned over the coarse of the last two weeks is every monitor has its flaws. So what ever makes you happy I guess stick with it.

I have the 21" gateway.. Did you run through the monitor calibration software?
After I did that it looks perfect, to me at least.. There may be a slight differnece in panels? who knows

well, as long as the end user is happy either way.

They are different panels. I believe the 21" is s-pva and the 22" is for sure a TN. 24" is rumored to be a s-pva also but I haven't found any where that confirms that.

If you are expecting an 'upgrade' over your 2005PW,you will be in for a bit of a surprise and a dissapoinment.I own a 2005FPW,and have an A03 with extremely little bleed, and no dead or stuck pixels (bought it on Hard FS/FT forums)My friend Luke, who happens to live a few floors down from us(We live in a big highrise)just bought a E228WPF and we compared the two side by side.

Well let me tell you, there is a good reason its so cheap. When I first saw his new LCD,I new it was inferior as to picture quality, etc. But as he had been stuck using a Dell 17" crt for the last 4 years, and it took him time to save up the funds for even this new LCD.

I kept my mouth shut, and told him it was great and ohhed and ahhwed it,as he beamed while playing a few rounds of AOE3.A few days later, totally at his behest,he asked if he could haul it upstairs to see what dual display would be like.So we did just that, and he ran a few 'tests'.Now god love him,but he is very ignorant on all things that have to do with computers, but even he saw the big difference without me having to say a word. You get what you pay for.

Hmm...not what I like to hear My 2005FPW has fantastic picture/color quality, no dead or stuck pixs and bleed through is there but has never effected my viewing. I bought it at a very discounted price direct from Dell as I've done with the E228WFP, so I'm hoping I get the same positive experience using the new monitor. If not, then it goes back and I try something else. My "mother-in-law" needs the 21" CRT on my #2 system ...so, I WILL find a a new monitor so I can move the 2005FPW to #2 and give her the CRT

Yes, it came with software called "EZ-Tune"...and I could get it dialed in to look decent on the desktop, but then those setting were totally off for games. Then in games no matter what I did, darks were over dark and lights were over light.

I got my Dell 2407 Rev3 a few days ago. This thing is amazing!!!

I know many in here own it allready but i can definatly say that this monitor is worth it's money (and it's about 250 to 300 cheaper then the competition here in europe!!!).

Congrats! Yea, really nice display, loving mine.

Do you have any backlight bleed or dead/stuck pixels?

Nope. Nothing. It's simply perfect. I did use tools to look after dead pixels too but there are none.

I am really happy with the thing. I expected a lot but didn't expect it to be that good tbh.
Gaming at 1920x1200 is awesoem too especially since my beloved EvE Online supports the resolution.
