Thanks.
I don't have Vista, but XP's Forceware drivers have a "custom resolution" page.

Here is the 250 page thread on the 37" Westy, though there is some information on that thread to concerning the drivers. There are driver problems with any 1080P res setting, it seems.

Hahahah those are nice shots. The screen is so damn big that it really is about the size of an actual car. Feels more real, I bet.

You know, when I first thought about 47", I thought it would be too big for a computer, but I wanted to try a large screen anyways and the westy 47" was the only convenient thing to order. When I first put it up, I thought it was too big and immediately thought I would return it.

But gradually I have come to the realization that with uber high resolutions, e.g. 1920x1080, you tend to want to sit closer to the screen. If you have a small screen, you often find yourself squinting at the little details or the small fonts. Not the case with a larger screen.

And when you think about it, high resolutions are ultimately useless if you plan on sitting far away from the screen, or sitting the same distance away from a smaller screen as you do when it is running at higher resolutions. The further away you are, the less details your retina can distinguish on anything.

Me? I am perfectly comfortable sitting 3-4 feet away from this screen. I am willing to bet that slaWter is starting to feel the same way as well. Not only that, but for LCD technology, if you sit anything less than that then you are going to start running into the screen door effect.

And BTW, in spite of what some people claim, sitting close to a TV does NOT make you blind; this is just an urban myth. You may as well say that you'll go blind by holding a small book about 8" away from your face.

Children sitting too close to the television seems to be another sore spot for concerned parents, who often worry that continued close-watching can cause long-term vision problems. Although this CAN cause eye fatigue, there is no danger to the eyes or overall vision, no matter how close kids sit to the screen. The same goes for people who use computers for several hours a day. Long-term eye damage is not a possibility, but it always helps to take short breaks from staring at the video monitor to prevent eye strain. Looking at objects across the room every fifteen minutes or so usually does the trick.

About the eye deterioration..

I played games and watched TV & movies as a kid all the time, very close to the TV, a CRT in fact.. and I have had 20/20 vision my entire life. Never needed glasses and never ate carrots.

About the monitors... I seem to have a little gray dot in one of the pixels. It doesn't seem to be a dead pixel; there's no black/white pixel that stands out when I run the color tests.

here: the mouse cursor is pointing right to it. Is this a stuck pixel?

I solved that problem by getting rid of the desk and replacing it with a 26" stand. You want the middle of the screen to be about level with your eyes, and then you want your feet to sit flat on the ground, so the optimal stand height will vary.

Then I put a rolling cart in front of that, which I put my keyboard and mouse on top of. I also added a USB extension cable and used that to put an 8 port USB hub at the base of the TV. I then plug the keyboard, mouse, card reader, controller, usb drives, etc. into that. Many people would prefer wireless keyboards/mice in my setup, but I still prefer wired for its lower latency response times.

For low def content, I tend to sit further away from the TV (being up close is rather pointless for low def) and that is the nice thing about this setup is I can easily change how far away I want to sit from the TV while using my PC or while watching TV.

Not right now, I don't have my digital camera ATM. It is nothing spectacular to look at right now though, namely because my sound system is still a work in progress and I have wires strewn about everywhere. FWIW I think I am going to drop a total of $2,500 for both my TV and my sound system combined.

My sound system is going to look as follows:

Pioneer VSX-816-k $250
Onix X-CS tweeter $139
2 pairs of Onix X-LS monitors $438
Onix X-Sub $200

Here's a page that describes all of them, but I am going to order them separately rather than in this package:

http://www.av123.com/products_produc...s&product=92.1

It'll come up to somewhere around $1150 after shipping. The westy has thus far cost me $1,259.99. I think I am getting a very good home theater setup for the money; I already know that this is going to beat the crap out of some setups that I have seen people pay upwards of $5k for.
