Flip back a couple pages and you'll see some of my results (especially the ones with HDTV feeds). I'm not an expert either, and I was using my friends camera that I was not too familiar with, but those are some basic guideline you should follow.

actually your best bet is to either A) hold a piece of tissue paper over the flash , this will soften and diffuse the light giving you less contrast and a less stark "flash star" in the center or B) use a piece of white cardstock and hold it at a 45 degree angle underneath the flash, this will bounce the light to the ceiling and give you a more diffuse and even light over the entire room, this might be the best way to shoot an LCD screen for clarity and screen detail reproduction if you're using a point and shoot with onboard flash.

Thank you all for the kind words I put a lot of effort into my setup to keep it as clean as possible and eliminate all unnecessary items from my desktop. Ive since made a few minor changes to further improve the look but I dont have any updated pictures right now.

I ran all of the wires behind the desk, not behind the wall. What you cant see(besides the wires) is my cable box and my external HDD that I have put under my desk and out of sight.

Here's a picture of behind the desk to show you my dis-organization/mess of cables that are hidden.

EDIT: Ooops.. to answer the questions asked: Resolution is 1920x1080P. The desk is an Ikea Jerker. Unfortunately it is no longer available as it has been replaced with a smaller version called the Fredrick. Its a great desk. Very, very sturdy. It holds 200+ pounds. Ive personally stood on it and sat on it and its as sturdy as can be.
