You'll get yours soon I hope. I haven't had good luck like this in a long time where I was one of the first ones to get something. Usually it's me that ends up waiting 4 weeks lol.

When I ordered the 2005FPW I ended up waiting an extra week or two there because they ran out of stock right after Christmas. So I guess I deserve getting this early... sorta.

Oh well so much for good luck.

I have a broken pixel in a place that I can't tolerate. Whenever I open My Computer it's right there staring at me. It's about 3.5" down from the top and 7" over from the left. It's a wierd one - kind of a gray color like dust but it's not dust. It isn't R,G, or Blue. But it's definitely a pixel out.

So I'm on the phone now trying to get an exchange.

Further, and I'm troubleshooting this now, but I think the color reproduction is a half step back from the 2005FPW. Blues and oranges are richer on the 2005. I've done all manner of gamma adjustments, brightness changes, etc. to no avail. The colors still look a tad bit better on my 2005 - and even my wife can see the difference.

TBH, the colors I can live with since it isn't horrible or anything but that damn dead pixel right in the spot it's @, always showing up on a white background. Now that pisses me off. So I'm going to get them to exchange.

What drivers are you using?

Catalyst 5.2. If I turn down the gamma setting in the driver to .8 it looks better, less washed out. Only problem is there is a bug in the driver. When I go into a game, even if I have the 3D Profile set to .8, it doesn't take effect. Furthermore, when I exit UT2004 it causes the 2D desktop to return to default gamma.

So... If I can't find a way to get the monitor itself adjusted I'm not sure what to do. If I could just get the ATI driver to work in this regard I'd be OK - but it won't cooperate. So I might be kinda screwed.

I have a replacement on the way btw. Probably will be here by the end of next week if I'm lucky (which I'm not).

So my initial enthusiasm has been tempered somewhat. Out of the box this thing is washed out looking compared to the 2005FPW. And it has two problem pixels. Kind of disappointing really that I ended up having to get an exchange but it figures with my damn luck.

That sucks, however if i were you id see if you can keep it untill they can 'reserve' you a new unit then you send it back. It will suck more if you send it back and then get backorderd for a month!

Dell will ship the replacement and give you several days to decide which one you want to keep so thats not really a problem.

From what I've been hearing it sounds like this panel is, by design apparently, not quite as rich w/regard to color rendition vs. the 2005FPW. So that issue may stick around even w/an exchange. The bad pixels on the other hand will hopefully not be a problem w/the replacement. I've got the RGB settings and brightness on the monitor tuned to where it's pretty good, just not quite as nice as the 2005FPW. I'd have to say it isn't a full step back in that regard, more like half a step.

Well generaly the case is you lose colors you can reproduce to gain responce time. For a panel this large I honestly dont mind haveing a bad responce time for better colors. But the dell is so cheep its worth it : )

In this case it's still 24bit color - it's more like the colors are just washed a bit. I dunno, if you have another panel to compare it with when you get yours you might be able to see what I mean.
