Sorry to hear about you probs |JuiceZ| Hopefully your next one will be better than this one. Mine is a November model and doesn't seem to suffer from the backlight issue so hopefully you dont get another defective one. Let us know how it goes.

Btw, always do overnight shipping on monitors. This way it doesn't get beat up for 4/5 days with ground

Thanks man. I told Dell it was for a "customer" that wasn't at all pleased and they got right on it

Love the monitor otherwise, just hope they get the backlighting issue straightened out.

While I'm waiting on the new screen, to give you an idea of what it looks like playing HL2, take a look at the screenshots in this thread.

Default Re: Dell 2005FP (20.1" / 16:10) LCD for $559 Today only!!!

The 2nd one arrived yesterday afternoon, Dec rev. When I first tested it, there was very minimial backlight leakage and no dead pixels. Through the course of use over the next several hrs one dead pixel (red on black) about an inch from the right side developed and the backlighting was more visible from the top. The single pixel is only hardly visible when the screen is all black and after some further testing, I've come to realize the backlighting isn't as bad as previously thought. Comparing it directly to that of the VP201s, I was suprised to discover how uneven the backlighting was on it as well. So its something we just have to deal with due to the manufacting process of how they're currently made.

On a side note, played around with the monitor PiP & PBP capabilites and was quite impressed. The signal was fed from my vcr to the composite connector in the back. The controls are extremely easy to configure and I applaud Nvidia's driver team for all the extra tools in the display drv cpl that assist in configuring your LCD for optimal TV viewing and even HDTV support.

For now I'm gonna hang on to it and continue to evaulate closely to make sure no other abnomalities develope with the next 21days. Overall this is a great LCD

So if you play a game in 1600x1200 it's cutting the edges off is that correct? I know you can choose to scale it but then the aspect ratio is kinda messed up. How much vert/horiz does it cut off when playing in 1600x1200 if you choose not to scale it?

I've been told that virtually all games will support the native resolution of this screen and that they get their supported resolutions from the monitor driver versus having the separate resolutions hardcoded into the game itself. I'm not sure if this is true though.

Glad you only have one dead pixel. How would you like to order a screen from newegg and get stuck with 7 of them? That'd suck.

To me you play games in 1600x1200 w/this monitor (sides will be cut off slightly) and use the native res. in Windows for DVD viewing/web surfing, etc..
You would only do that for very old games, all the newer ones support widescreen format no problem.

It's awesume too, because you have a much larger field of view with this thing. I can see things on the sides that people with standard monitors can't. I have peripheral vision with this thing!

Here take a look at World of Warcraft in 1680x1050, sorry for the bad picture but I had to open up the shutter time and I don't have the most steady hands.

You'll notice stuff off to the right, that is my other old flat panel (in portrait mode) that I have Rivatuner loaded up watching my 6800GT's tempature. There is nothing cooler than running dual heads! It's awesume running a game and then email, stats, or a movie in your other monitor at the same time!

Friggin rocks!

Even if this was true, which I doubt, it's called a warranty.

If you read all the replies to people who have received bad monitor's Dell has taken VERY GOOD care of them by overnighting them a replacement.

Some people who are VERY anal and want perfection have had 5 replacements sent to them without a question.

The monitors are shipped overnight while you keep your current one and you ship it back in the box they sent the new one.

That to me in customer service!

I got mine for $637 which I thought was an awesume deal and that was only two weeks ago. I'm SERIOUSL considering getting another one for the bedroom to watch DVD's movies through my Shuttle HTPC.

This monitor is SOOOO worth it!

Damn those coupon codes for expiring. My 2001FP is a real nice display for the $$$. But after seeing wide screen CS:S I'm sold. I want one now. Having that extra field of view is a nice thing in a game like that where things often happen very quickly.

I'm going to wait until they have another sale though and just save up for it.

I know what you mean, I just pinged the wifey about them only being $549 and she gave me the OK to buy another one for the bedroom!

That's how nice they are, it got the get the second one so I can enjoy it OK!

Anyways, I promptly carried by butt upstairs and went to Dell's site to order a second one and the damn coupon expired....

Sigh... Guess it wasn't meant to be, but if anyone has another code, PM me and I'll test fate once again!

Yes, major brownie/rep points to whoever posts a valid coupon code for this thing as soon as they are available again.
