Weird, but livable, especially since I'll be first in line to get XBox 2 and the games support a minimum of 720P.
squiggles, now is that the technical term?

It is now. To recap, at 480P, the screen gets fuzzy every .5 second. You can see it most on text or static images, as the lines in the words become squigglie. It isn't too noticable during actual gameplay though.

I've been looking forward to buy this amazing LCD... I'm aiming at the 2005FPW 20" model, it has 16x12 native res. which is a sweet spot for me.

I have some questions though, before I shell out the bucks:
- What is the response time?
- How is the display quality?
- How are the colors, contrast & brightness?
- What is the dot pitch size?
- Should I consider any other brand/model? OR EVEN CRT? (a perpetual question obviously) Should I'll wait for something else or near to come (currently with a mediocre 17" CRT)?
- Does the enthusiasts regard it to be a hardcore gaming monitor with dated and good specs?

Also, can you tell me a little better about that nifty coupon deal running at techbargains.com?

Thanks a TON.

Regards,
homb

2005FPW is 1680x1050 native.

It is a 12ms gray to gray response, 16ms overall I believe.
It's a nice display with rich colors, good contrast and brightness. Only problem with it is that a lot of units have some backlight bleed. Not sure about the dot pitch.

It's a pretty good gaming monitor but there are others. If you want to go bigger, the 2405FPW is out and can be had for $899 last I checked. It's a 24" display. There are some other displays as well, like the 2001FP which are worth looking at. It's a 21" 16ms display. If you want to go a little smaller there are 17-19" displays that have even faster response times, down near 8ms.

Just look around a bit.

Yeah I was looking at that, but I want the 24 inch with the 1000:1 contrast ratio, no coupon codes though. I'm going for it don't care it's still worth the price there asking for it.

hey i have a question. do any of you use your LCD screens for Professional image work? graphic design, photography, video, 3d animation etc. I use Apple LCD's at work (last years models) and i cant stand the damn things as far as getting a good idea of resolution and color. Although i play games im not terribly concerned about them, so are these panels up to par as far as being able to give me good image reproduction? I'm abou t to take the plunge and would like to get your opinions(just waiting for a rebate on the 2405)

If you need extremely accurate color reproduction then I suggest you go with a professional grade CRT. LCDs are very good at displaying color but they can not reproduce true black. The 2405FPW with it's 1000:1 contrast ratio does the best job I've seen lately at reproducing deep black levels but it does not compare to a good quality CRT. What I suggest you do is order the 2405FPW and try it out. With Dell's 30 day no questions return policy you really can't go wrong.

ENU gives sound advice. If you don't like the 2405FPW and end up returning it the pro grade CRT is your best option.
