Hmmm... now it sounds like a definite software issue. I tried to recreate the problem with my 2005FPW but could not. Do you have another PC that you could connect the 2005FPW too? See if you still have the problem on the other PC. If you don't then something you have installed on your main rig is the cause. If you still do then you might want to RMA the LCD back to Dell. Let us know how you make out with that issue.

ok another update. I've been doing more research into this USB problem I've been having. I changed some USB settings in the device manager that would have turned off my usb ports to save energy, just to test whether or not this was the culprit. this didnt help any.
well I have 2 dvd capable drives, I then realized that I was playing all my dvd's on the same dvd drive. I tried the second drive and I have and no more problems, since the mouse stops working only when the 1st drive is being used I'm thinking there might be an IRQ conflict. I'm still trying to figure out how I could check whether or not that hunch is correct so any help from you all would be appreciated.

Hey shaker sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. That problem you are having is very strange. When you installed Windows XP did you have your bios setup for ACPI? If you motherboard is fairly new you should not be getting affected by interrupt requests. I suggest you scan over your BIOS settings and maybe (hopefully not) reinstall Windows XP. Let us know what you find out.

Hi,

I've been following this thread for a while, but just now registered. I'm in a bit of a dilemma. My 2005FPW came the other day, and there happened to be a scratch right in the middle of the screen. Though, when the computer is on, and even when it's off, it's pretty much not visible. I have no dead pixels and backlight problems that are very, very minor.

The only other thing I'm noticing is a "shadow" effect with blues. I've tried many different brightness/contrast configs and nothing seems to get rid of it. For instance, there's basically a double left table line on this site. The dark blue outline around the greyish blue inside creates a dark grey line to the right of the dark blue. Is this normal? How can I get rid of it?

Do you guys think it's worth returning?

Thanks

I would exchange if there's a scratch, easily visible or not. With Dell's 21 day guarantee you might as well. They'll ship a replacement out pronto.

Not sure what to make of that shadow effect you're talking about. I don't notice that on the wife's 2005FPW.

Again I agree with Riptide (thats been happening alot lately! ) With Dells return policy they will send you out a new one ASAP. Once you receive the new one just box the old one up and call DHL. DHL will come to your house and take it away. Dells RMA practice couldn't be easier.

Turns out the shadow effect is a problem with my video card (old school GeForce2 GTS). I switched the display so it was connected to my laptop, and everything worked fine.

I guess I'll request a replacement. I'm just afraid I'll end up with a unit that has dead pixels or severe backlight issues. I guess we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the input.

hey guys, on top of the usb weirdness, i noticed a new stuck white on black pixel and the bezel actually covering a bit of the lower right hand corner, almost as if the screen were slightly askew within the bezel... as soon as i saw that i called for a replacement screen, here's hoping for the best

just got the replacement, its a a01 april made in mexico, sadly the backlighting is bad and on this one there are like 6 dead pixels spread out over the screen, three of which are smack dab in the middle about an inch from each other. Im sending this one back and asking for another, if the next one is still fubar i'll just keep the first one.

Ah the joys of the exchange carousel in search of an LCD w/no dead pixels or problems.

More proof to my contention that dead pixels are the norm, not the exception. But some people still like to insist it's just bad luck on my part.
