The cost of the display is factored into the cost. Dell determines the hit they take on a given system or package to incorporate the product but it is very definitely factored into the cost of the item.

Yeah, but they're not using the MSRP as the base cost. That is why it's often cheaper to get the monitor with a system purchase, unless the monitor is already on sale and you happen to have a coupon for it as well. My friend got his 2001FP from his brother who ordered a Dell and didn't want a monitor, and saved quite a bit.

Amuro, you are not getting my point.

When you say you are getting the monitor cheaper with the system, that is incorrect because you are PAYING for the system. Your friend's brother PAID for everything, the fact your friend then got a cheaper price because he bought the monitor alone doesn't negate the fact that it is not cheaper to buy the monitor as part of a system since you are already PAYING for it in one capacity or another.

The math is simply wrong.

There are once in a blue moon coupons or packages for some companies with a massive discount (like the one I posted about earlier) but besides those, it is not cheaper to get a monitor with a system because you are paying for BOTH items rather than getting the monitor by itself.

Not any time soon....the return policy sucks for HKG and the prices are still quite steep..well cheaper than bricka nd mortar but at when u buy from teh shops you can check the lcd pixel by pixel...and also you get fantastic 3 year on site warranty from Viewsonic (which I am leaning too)

Onsite warranty means they go to your house, pick up the monitor, leave you monitorless for a month until they have done with the repair. Dell, however, will send you a replacement ASAP, and collect the broken part only after you tell them the replacement is working without problems. If your particular model is not in stock, they will send you a different model for the time being so you at least have something to use.

The return policy on Dell is pretty bad right? you have to have loads of dead pixels before u can return the mon? I mean, I 5 p ixels etc or something, at a brick and mortar you can take more than one hour to check the lcd ...and ask for a new one again and again untill u are satisfied....

In the states you have 21 days to do an exchange or refund. They will cross ship. A single dead pixel is enough to trigger an exchange if you want.

After 21 days... You'll be getting a referb.
