Hell......I've been NOT looking at this thread, I lost it tonight and read all 41 pages damn me!!!
Been fighting myself for months on weather or not to get a 2405FPW. Its torturing me to no end. I'm afraid after spending the $$ the LCD is going to to have worse I\Q and be slower for gaming than my current CRT, plus I don't want to fart around with config files to get wide-screen resolutions.
But after reading this...seems like my thinking is bullcrap .
Tomorow I'm doing a major upgrade to my #2 machine, this would might be a good time to loose its old 21' Gateway Crystalscan....move this Viewie to #2...and plop a 2405 on my desk///

I'm going to see the "MaximumPC Dream Machine DMX tour" in NYC on Sun. Nov. 13th. DMX has two 2405FPW's running, once I see them in action I'll make my final descision....like I really need to put eyeballs on them to be convinced ..hehe

But after reading this...seems like my thinking is bullcrap .

Lots of games need to be tweaked in order to work right. In fact only HL2/CSS and FarCry seem to work right for me without having to edit a config file. BF2 is still broken. POV is just stretched - it runs the resolutions OK though but the aspect ratio is trashed.

Actually I'm still a little irritated that so many publishers don't really support it fluidly out of the box. It's kind of a PITA.

But no I would never go back to a CRT.

I hear this alot...why(got to put ya on the spot, bro )? Are you talking about using LCDs vs CRTs in general? or Is it specific to the size of the 2405? or Is this about wide screen gaming?
thanks

Yes, but the 2405 has 1:1 scaling, so if you can't run a game at the native resolution for whatever reason, you can always go back to 1600x1200, which gives you the same viewable space as a 20" fullscreen LCD. Other monitors like the 23" Cinema Display doesn't have this feature.

I'm sick of convergence, focus, and geometry problems with CRTs. LCDs aren't perfect - but I'll take their minuses over a CRT any day.

The widescreen gaming is a bonus.

Not happening. I already spent more than I should've.

I might consider it after Christmas but right now I'm honestly more interested in the new (hopefully higher clocked) 512MB GTX that might be in the works. I have that eVGA tradeup option you know. The wheels are turning... lol

Does this mean you just have black bars down the sides when using 1600x1200? I've been wanting to get one but didn't like the thought of having to tweak so many games to run at the native resolution. If it can support 1600x1200 with just bars down the side, I'd probably just use that mode if the game didn't have support directly for 1900x1200. On the website they don't make mention of the scaling option.
