Its tempting eh?

I believe you're right, if you play game at a non-wide screen resolution(like 1600x1200) there in OSD toggle built in to the monitor that allows you to switch to 1:1, then the game will play centered with black bars on each side.
My biggest issue (and why I don't have one yet) is that I don't want to be pigeon-holed into using certain resolutions.

Yeah JuiceZ it's tempting. I'm more or less planning on making use of that evga tradeup option. It's just a question of when. Not sure when G80 is coming out, probably well after Christmas, so the 512MB GTX will probably be what I end up trading for.

PaiN I agree, it does sort of suck to be hammered into the native resolution. Especially if you have a high res display like the 2405FPW. Pretty much forces you to have a high end card at all times.

Yeah, well, there's that too. It's the main reason I went back to my CRT for now but with my system I was more concerned about being limited to 1280x1024 (my current LCDs native res). I think I'd be happier with a 1600x1200 or higher LCD as long as the non-native resolutions aren't too blurry (since there's always the chance that some cutting edge game won't run acceptably at 1600x1200 or higher.

1600x1200 looks great on the 2405FPW. Even though you get black bars on the sides but the viewable space is still big.

Yeah, I don't care about the black bars as long as the picture looks good. Thanks for the info.

Have you tried gaming in lower resolutions, like 1280x1024 or even 1024x768 on the 2405?

It would look like a 17" LCD if you play at 1280x1024, 15" at 1024x768.

That is what I thought I'm putting serious thought in to this purchase(which is not something I normally do ) and I think, I might hold off.

But what about the occasional game that doesn't run well higher than 1280x1024. Are you able to play at lower resolutions without it being stretched or excessively blurry?

An excellent question OWA...
Would it be possible for someone with a 2405(Rip ) or 2005 to post screenies of games running at 1280x1024 or less "stretched" to fit the full wide screen.. thanks
