?
My 2405FPW came face down, not on it's side. And there is no "THIS SIDE UP" indicator on the box that I saw. |

Heh, yeah, you're right. The LCD was face down. When I wrote that I was thinking in terms of the box not being upright but instead was laying down on its side. Of course, not the right way to think about it since it's the LCD that matters.

Yeah I really don't know what the reason BB is doing that for. Honestly. It's a total mystery. There's nothing special about a bigger LCD, AFAIK, that would require it to be shipped standing up on it's side.
Personally I think they are just paranoid that you'll have something sitting on it that could push in the box and damage it. I don't know what. If I ever chat with Westinghouse then I'll ask them about this. I had to call for support when I first set it up - had problems pulling the speakers off. Turns out I loosened up the wrong set of screws. Woops... lol. |

So Riptide how was the Westy packed? If the foam is sufficient then OWA really shouldn't be to worried about laying the Westy box face down.

There's no way I could have fit that in my car even laying down. The thing is huge. The box is so tall we couldn't fit it completely upright in the SUV either. It had to go in at a slant and even then it was a tight fit. We couldn't completely put both back seats down though since he had his 6-month old baby along for the ride. I guess I'll have to call a friend with a van/minivan if I have to take it back.
Edit: BTW, I missed the sale. The $300 off sale ended saturday. They still had the sales tag showing earlier today so I thought it was still on. I asked about it and he said it ended and then replaced it with another just showing $96 off. The first guy helping me never came back and since my friend had waited out front for so long already, I went ahead and got it anyway so I didn't make him wait for nothing. Still a little irritated by that though. Last edited by OWA; 02-13-06 at 05:18 PM. |

Yes I would be irritated by that as well. I hope you get a decent unit, some people have had problems and had to do exchanges. I appear to have finally got lucky. Mine has very little corner bleed and so far (knock on wood) no dead pixels making it the first display I've ever owned without one. I haven't used dead pixel buddy to do an exhaustive search but I probably would've noticed by now if it had one, especially considering that the pixels are larger/less dense on this display vs. some of the others that I've owned.

Yeah there is some shock and awe there at first eh?
![]() BTW if you think it's overbright - first thing to do is turn that backlight down to less than 35 IMO. I keep mine at 0. BTW if you can't find a happy medium I'll check the thread later and post my settings. Also, avsforums has a thread chalk full of info devoted to this display. |

Okay, thanks for the info. I'm think I'm starting to get a tan from it so tackling the backlight will be the next thing I do.
Edit: It seems to be working pretty well with the HDTV Wonder also. Kinda nice seeing the Olympics in HD on a larger screen. Last edited by OWA; 02-13-06 at 07:21 PM. |

WOW!! That is a BEAST! I picked up a 32" LCD TV for my son's Xbox360 but the Westy in OWA's picture looks HUGE in comparison... How far away are you guys sitting from the Westy? From the looks of it you have to be at least 6 to 8 feet away minimum!

The PC desktop, etc. looks good and is fine from just 2-3 feet away. I'm currently sitting around 2.5 ft away. When watching HDTV, it looks better at around 6-8 ft. or so (like you mentioned) especially when things are in motion. Slow moving stuff looks pretty good at the 2.5 ft that I'm currently sitting. I haven't tried a game yet.

Hm this westinghouse lcd looks like a very tempting deal, is that its true resolution or is it a 'standard pc' resolution and just scaled.
Has anyone tried hooking it up to a dvi and seeing what happens?
