CSS and FarCry are a blast on this thing. It's H U G E.

And the 1080p resolution is a good desktop resolution IMO. Not much difference vs. the 2405FPW I came from.

A lot of people complain about pixel density on these huge panels and for sure it would be annoying - if I sat 1' back from the screen. But if you sit at a more comfortable distance of around 3' it's just fine.

How is it compared to the 37"? Does it rectify all the 37 issues (hum, backlight bleeding mainly in the corners, the bright right side, etc.)? I like that it has two 1080p ports and that the IR receiver is now in the middle so in general, have they mostly got it right with the 42"?

The two problems I have with the second LVM-42W2:
1) Still has some banding, just greatly reduced vs. the first unit. This one is livable. Only with a solid gray background am I able to see any bands and then I still have to look fairly close. See the updated screen I posted a ways back.
2) The color white is not 100% uniform. In the bottom left it is slightly darker. This is barely noticeable but super picky people like me will eventually notice it.

The remote still sucks btw even if the receiver is in a slightly better spot. The new LVM-37W3 supposedly has a new remote and menu system btw so it might be better in this regard.

There is no backlight bleed that I can see and I have not detected a dead or stuck pixel yet. All in all I'm pretty happy with it and I will be keeping this one. CSS and FarCry are just a joy on this thing.

I didn't know you still played far-cry that much

I guess I;m not the only one who keeps running round discovering new things

Btw, when posting pics like you did, double-stack em (i.e. put em side by side, 2 or 3 ranks deep). Reduces scrolling

I really like the way the dvd displays, do you have an up-converting dvd player? Or just straight out from your system?

I still tool around in FarCry. Still has some relatively good graphics (especially given it's age) and there are some fun levels with challenging spots on veteran or harder.

TBH I haven't played that many DVDs. I've mostly been watching Nature and Discovery High Def specials in 1080i that I download off the network. I have ffdshow loaded so when I do get around to watching a DVD I will be ready.

BTW I don't use a separate player. Everything runs off Media Player Classic.

Oh, and that shot of Clint Eastwood was from a 1080i version of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Nemo was 720p.

I had the opportunity to download a 1080i version of LOTR ROTK. I passed though since I already had a DVD9 copy.

TBH I wish more stuff was in 720p. 1080i is good, great detail... But during heavy motion or where the camera pans around quickly it doesn't look as good as 720p.

Riptide: Where exactly do you download your high-def content from?

It's true. I noticed that 1080i pixelates and degrades when high speed action sequences are displayed. 720p is the way to go in my opinion.
