Default Re: NVNews Widescreen LCD Club (formally DELL thread)

lo everyone, I just couldn't help registering here just because of this great thread^^

perhaps someone of you can help me: I really would like to buy one of these great westinghouse tv's like riptide, but obviously its almost impossible to get one of these in europe since it seems to be a us-only branch and noone imports it...
but I would be really happy about any tips how i can get a "westy"^^

in case its not possible to get a westinghouse, do you know any other tv's of the size of 32" to 42" that meet about the specs of the westy?
that means 8ms or less response time, resolution at about 1940 x 1200 or something like that and a not too high price (which probably means no tv decoder included)

i mean i asked several firms around here, and they want to sell me toshiba tv's for more than 4000dollars, that doesnt quite fit my idea of a nice pc monitor if i have the westy back in my mind ^^

Hey thomen66,

Unfortunately large 1080P LCDS are still pretty rare these days. Companies like BenQ, Sceptre and Westinghouse are the only companies that are selling affordable 1080P LCD monitors/TVs. Dell has a 30" ultra high resolution LCD monitor but it has only 2 inputs (DVI and VGA). Since I don't live in Europe I really don't know what brands are available to you. Why not check out the AVS Forums to see if someone there can direct you to the right European vendors.

Good luck!

Hey toxikneedle that is one sweet setup. So tell me... how do the 360 games look on the 32" Dell? Do you see any ghosting, ripping or shudder? Does the 32" play better or worst then a regular CRT/tube TV?

Well I haven't played on a CRT for a couple years now. Before this LCD I played it on my 2005fpw dell.

The 32'' looks great with games. I have not seen any ghosting and the blacks and colors are very good. I don't have cable hooked up to it yet, so gaming is all I use it for at the moment; and maybe an ocassional dvd movie through the 360. This is my first LCD HDTV, and from what I've seen in stores on display, the dell is definetely worth the money. I'm just very satisfied so far, and that's all I wanted .

What are you using to connect the 360 to the 32" Dell? VGA or component?

vga was a tad bit sharper, but very very easily overlooked, but the colors were much more washed out. The component definetely look better on the Dell. If vga had better colors, I'd probably use it but I liked component much more.

Thats a nice panel.

I was testing one a coupla months back, the one for businesses (like hotels) and it looks pretty nice. Almost the same setup, just a few minor component differences.

I think glowstick got the 26"er IIRC.

Wow, the 47" might be worth waiting for. Any idea when it's supposed to be released.
