Dell2407wfp pdf. I really badly want one of these monitors.
I was also thinking to buy this monitor.
The monitor is already available in Japan for some time and by now also most likely in UK.

There is an tread about 2407 at Widescreen Gaming Forum
With many not so favorable reviews by the new Japanese owners.

Some posters in that tread actually deciding to rather buy the 2405FPW.

As for me I will wait for some reviews when the 2407 comes out in the states or buy some other off the new 24 wide screen monitors coming out soon (not in rush), since the 2405 is also not the best solution for gaming.

Toms Hardware did some in debt testing on 7 wide sreen monitors and here is the conclusion on 2405FPW

Quote:
The Dell 2405FPW has incredible resolution, but lacks other qualities. If you want optimum sharpness, the 2405FPW is a good choice, but its performance falls short for playing movies and for gaming.
Out of the 7 monitors tested, Toms Hardware recommended Sony SDM-P234

I was reading somewhere, I think it was in the widescreen gaming forum thread on the Dell 2407, that there is going to be a new version of the 2407 coming out in about 4 weeks, which the aussies can swap their current 2407's for. I'll try and find that reference....

EDIT: Found it

Quote:
Hi all,

Purchased the 2407WFP, released in Australia about a week ago - that's the wide screen 24. It too had very noticeable colour banding/gradient issues using the DVI port. Not so noticeable through VGA. I phoned customer service, and the very nice people at Dell said that it was a common issue and it will be replaced with one from a new batch that should have this problem resolved. They couldn't give me a new batch release date, but said phone back in about 4 weeks. At least they are on to it. Apart from the banding problem, it is a GREAT monitor.

----------------------

Rumor has it the UK and US Batches will have this issue sorted.

Man, that's a long wait but I think I'd prefer to have the 47" over the 42". Hopefully it'll be 3k or less though.

Well, I did not know this thread existed. I Bought my Dell 2405FPW from ebay last December for $738. I love it. I will never go back. There is such a fantastic difference between a 24" Screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution compared to the 19" Dell 1901 Trinitron and playing at 1024 x 768. So let me thank MikeC for putting a link to this thread on the NVNews home page.

Screw LCDs, CRT Forever!

If you have the room on your desk get yourself a GDM-FW900 (It's cheaper then the 2405w), Best monitor ever! 16:10 so all widescreen resolutions fit perfectly and supports 4:3 perfectly aswell. Oh and no issue with dead pixels or ghosting.

Yeah the bugger weights a freaking ton and a half but its well worth it in my opinion... I mean how often are you going to move your screen? Biggest downside is that the monitor can only be purchased used through various online stores or on ebay. Get yourself a trusted seller and you are gold though!

I will probably stick with this monitor untill LCDs (or OLED) can be perfected for gaming...

I was really worried about that also but bit the bullet and ordered one from Dell. I didn't have any dead pixels and no backlight issues. I found out later on that you can sometimes get them locally. We don't have a Dell store in our area but apparently you can get them at Costco (if you have those in your area).

It depends on the game but in general, I find some AA is still needed even at 1920x1200. I still try to use 4xAA although in some games like FEAR, I just use 2xAA.

Refresh rate is 60. They might support 72 or 75 but the nv cp only gives a 60hz option. I don't use vsync. The tearing can sometimes be worse than what you'd see on a CRT but overall I don't find it to be a problem. It really depends on the game. If you're going to use vsync, be sure to check out that utility that forces triple buffering in a lot of games. That should help a lot.
