Hello
My PC : an Asus laptop L5D with a gForce 5650 (64 Mo RAM, AGP 8x). As systems : SuSE 9.2 AMD64 and SuSE 10.0 AMD64. No problem with SuSE 9.2 and driver 7676. But with SuSE 10.0, after 4 or 5 minutes of use, the system freezes (under KDE 3.4.2) with the driver 8178. Not the case with driver 'nv' in xorg.conf. I can just breakdown the xserver. But no way to get again the login bannier. Then I have to reset the PC. An idea of the problem ? |

I have an ASUS L5D laptop to.
I experinced the same problem but with different distributions. I try Fedora core 3, Debian (stable, testing), and Ubuntu (x86_64 or amd64). All these distributions work great with 7174 driver but only with kernel 2.6.8 and previous. After that version of kernel i experienced a freeze of mouse after 4 or five minutes and after some seconds a system hang-up. I try to switch from Xfree86 to Xorg but with same result. The only solution for me now is to use nvidia Driver witha kernel 2.6.8, or using the "vesa" and "nv" free drivers that work an all kernels but without 3d acceleration. |
