The demos were made to run smoothly though and show off the current tech. The Futuremark benchmarks are meant to stress and bench your machine for the future. 3DMark06 is using current tech as well, but pushing it to the limits.

4700 on my first run....single 256mb GTX, X2 @2.6ghz

Seems like it might should be a bit higher.....

4758 after overclocking the vid card to 493/1300..seems to be cpu bound...only gained 58pts....

i didn't give you the link to read it (it's a nice read though), but for the screens. the details you don't see are way obvious. the demos run a lot better because they are made to run on certain cards and because they are optimized for that range of cards. they are supposed to run with a decent framerate, they're not supposed to be used as benchmarks. 5 fps difference in a demo's case is not that much, but in a benchmark's case, it may be the exact difference between playable and unplayable.

Strangely enough, I overclocked my 3200+ to 2.2 GHz, and I only got 2270, a paltry 46 point increase.

When I overclocked my 6800GT to 406/1100, I got a whopping 2527 3Dmarks.
