The 8800GTX@ 652|2054 on a E6320@ a mere 3.0GHz-

12209

I'll return and add the official link when my QuadGT is back up and running. It got bricked with a bad BIOS flash and I am going to have to replace the BIOS chip. That was done during early testing of the E6320.

So how does the E6320 @ 3.0 compare with the E6600?

You sure 652/2054 is stable even in high-end games running with 8xAA, 8xAF? 3dmark2006, for me at least, doesn't represent what current games ask for like STALKER and C&C3 which demand alot from GPUs. I recently tried to run with a higher mem clock (2080) and kept my core @ 670 (675 seems a little unstable) and it would choke in most games within 1-2 minutes. Total system lock. Right now, in all major 3d games 670/2013 seems the most stable in my system.

Yes. I have played hours on end in "Oblivion" with HDR+AA active and the highest possible quality settings. I only game @ 1680x though. My card is cooled with a Thermalright HR03 Plus and a 92mm Panaflo H1A fan. Idle is 45C and load after hours of "Oblivion" = 55C. That's under ambient conditions of 21C. Naturally, higher ambients will add a few C. That cooler is fantastic.

I've also tested for hours with ATiTool's stress test that has my card pumping out well over 1300FPS. If it's unstable it has yet to show in any game or circumstance.

Hardware is luck of the draw. Some cards may clock higher than others and I am certain temps are not an issue.

I haven't had time to test extensively because the QuadGT is down from a bad BIOS flash. I have a new BIOS chip incoming. In early results I'd say near identical at the same clock. On 965 I can run much higher memory speed and my gaming benches @ 3.0GHz will be slightly faster vs an E6600 at the same clock. Also the higher FSB @ 3.0GHz gives the E6320 a small edge.

A 3.0-3.2GHz C2D is plenty of chip for a pure gaming rig and if you want a good value try a 965 board with an E4300 for 118usd or the E6320 for 168usd. If you really want price vs performance and are on a budget grab a Brisbane 3600+ and shoot for 2.8-3.1GHz.

There's a decent mobo to drop a C2D in for the price.

and yet cheaper-

Review of the Evga 650i-

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2964&p=5

Note, those mobos are not SLi capable. IMO the above with a 320mb or 640mb 8800GTS would make for a killer price vs performance gaming rig.

Hmmm 21c ambient? In the case? Thats impossible with your specs. What you live in an icebox? My ambient is 37c and its coolish in my basement lab. My core GPU temp right now is 48c. I find it QUITE suspect about that ambient. I have 2 temp monitors around my case hooked to an external display on the case. Its reporting 23c as the ambient.

21 in Celcius is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. That's just an air conditioned room not an ice box.
37 in Celcius is your normal body temperature 98.6.......

He said in C not F temperature measurements. The world uses Celsius anyway. Running the game @ 55c full load is sick though. WOw.
