Default how to center X in the monitor?

When using the nv driver that comes with x.org (in my case, running Fedora Rawhide: xorg-x11-drv-nv-1.0.1.4-1) , my X window is centered perfectly in my Samsung SyncMaster 970p LCD without need for any modeline or other tweaking in xorg.conf.

When using the nvidia driver (1.0-8178), X window is NOT centered. It is shifted to the left about 24 pixels which is extremely annoying.

My monitor has NO physical controls for adjusting the position of the pixels. My PC is a Toshiba Satellite P24-S607 with GeForce FX Go 5200.

Does anyone know how to get the output from the nvidia driver to be centered in the display?

Default Re: how to center X in the monitor?

For anyone who has this problem, which should be increasingly common as monitor manufacturers remove physical controls from their products, here is the solution.

For a Samsung SyncMaster 970P and the nvidia X driver, use the following modeline:
ModeLine "1280x1024@75NVIDIA" 135.00 1280 1284 1428 1696 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync

I arrived at this using xvidtune and starting with the Mode chosen by the X.org nv driver.

I guess nobody knows why, but the Nvidia driver and the X.org driver treat the same modeline very differently.
