Default nVidia Driver + Kernel Problem !

O.k so here's the deal ..

Im a newb trying to install the nvidia driver on my DEBIAN 3.1

So far , i install the kernel source 2.6.8-2-386 and kernel headers 2.6.8-2-386

so i should be able to run the sh NVIDIA.... .run file .. and i am ..
it goes and build the kernel but at 100% it give me a error saying i don't have the right source kernel file or something like that ...

So anyone want to help a newb :P

This is on a laptop with a nvidia 6600go video card

I've got the same problem !
No solution, on the net... I'm sure the sources are the same that the kernel i'm using. And I compiled the kernel with the same version of gcc ...

Please attach the (complete) /var/log/nvidia-installer.log file.

i never had that problem with the 2.6.8 kernel.....just do the following at root

aptitude and select the development option...

download and install the kernel headers for you 2.6.8 and all that is recommended to install.....this should include coreutils or something like that...

then as root you can run the nvidia installer download....and you should be fine....
