@NthDegree: judging from the description, your stability problem is unrelated to the one tracked in this thread. Please start a new thread (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678) if you believe the problem is NVIDIA driver related. Since it looks more like a system level problem, however, you may want to discuss it on the LKML.

Still no fix in 9646?

The issue discussed in this thread has been worked around in 1.0-9746.

I've installed the 9746 release, using direct rendering. Have been running four instances of glxgears, and Google Earth, for an hour. I've restarted, rerun, and stressed tested the system, and am using OpenGL screensavers in XScreenSaver - so far so good.

Hopefully it's fixed this time. Netllama, I apologise again for my previous harsh writings in this topic.

NVIDIA!!

It seems NVIDIA isn't the scrooge after all! So far so good the drivers haven't crashed yet, i've stressed the card by making the temperatures go up and down very quickly, i'm running the BSOD screensaver with an OpenGL renderer and i've been playing Tremulous, Nexuiz, Unreal Tournament 2003 and Quake 3 Arena without crashes so far.

Just in time for the new sexy LCD monitor i've been promised and just in time for the standardization of AIGLX and Compiz in most Linux distros!

@Zander, the MP-BIOS bug is triggered on almost all ATI motherboards and the APIC errors are down to my PC being almost entirely ATI parts (ATI breaks from a lot of standards apparently). Apparently most of the timing errors that show up are fixed in later Linux kernels *crosses fingers*.

Either way no crashes as of yet guess I lose the bet on nouveau being finished before NVIDIA fixes this .

Hi,

I have been testing with Google Earth and Santa trips round the World, glxgears, some OpenGL games and all works Ok.
I also have improved graphics card (6200TC) with Artic Cooling NV 6 and temperature don't exceeds 40C with maximum stress, without 3D applications is about 27C.
Lonni, can you tell us what was the problem? Or how it has been solved?

Merry Christmas.

I started this thread almost a year ago, but it looks like the 9746 driver finally fixes my problems with the 6200 and my ATI 480 based computer. In the mean time I'd been using a 5200 based PCI adapter, and never had a single crash. So far my machine's been up 1 week with the 6200 installed and no crashes. I guess it's a good thing I never got around to ebaying it.

Coincidently (or not) 9746 is also the first Nvidia driver that fixed the screen corruption I saw on text consoles on my 6150 machine at work (text consoles were messed up after starting X).

Thanks for the fix, even if it was a long time in coming.

Hm, I've got an HP dx5150 which has an inbred ATI card and the ATI RS480 chipset, and have been trying to use a PCIe 7300 GS but have been running into what sounds like this hard hang in both SLED10 and openSUSE 10.2 (and 10.1 before that). For further info, I'm running dual head with 1600x1200 and 1280x1024. I've tried the 9746 drivers (and just about every revision prior) and still get this problem, though inconsistently. It usually happens faster if I'm doing 3D stuff, but sometimes it doesn't matter.

In SLED10 (using Xgl/Compiz) it can take a couple days before the problem occurs, and I can't seem to accelerate it with load. Sometimes it even happens overnight with just about nothing running (blank screen saver), including if I'm not running Xgl/Compiz, btw (though takes longer). In openSUSE 10.2 (Xorg/Compiz), however, I can usually hang it up just poking around the desktop within 10 to 20 minutes.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Is there anyway to identify the cause of the hang? With the 9746 drivers, what specific fix might have helped others and how can I test it? Did they fix it for everyone else but me?

Thanks for any help... Cheers!

I also have a PCIe 7300GS with ATI RS480 chipset and it still randomly locks up the system completely (i.e no mouse or keyboard). I have to hard shutdown. I am running Ubuntu Dapper. I am running XGL/Beryl. Also, using the latest 9746 driver. It appears the bug still exists for 7300GS cards?

The problem originally discussed in this thread is specific to GeForce 6200 GPUs and certain ATi chipsets; if you are experiencing problems with GeForce 7300GS graphics cards, please start a new thread and attach relevant information about your system (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678).

The 1.0-9639 series driver fixed this problem for me, but since upgrading to 100.14.11 the problem appears to have resurfaced.
Am I the only one?

There were no explicit workarounds for this issue in 1.0-9639.
