on the Nvidia website, and it shows that TurboCache is used. So, it appears that it is some other reason behind the incompatibility. Maybe Lonni could elaborate on the technical issue (note: I'm not asking for a resolution date) and let us all know what's the reason behind this incompatibility that occurs only under Linux. Back when I was using the 7300 based card, it worked fine under WindowsXP but it didn't work at all with the Nvidia drivers while running Linux.... Regards, TL_KJ5XF |

The GeForce 6600 has several different models, most of which are *not* Turbocache parts.

Would it be a safe assumption then to ONLY consider Nvidia cards that do NOT support TurboCache if a user plans to run Linux on a motherboard that has either an ATI RS480/482 chipset? Since you filed the bug related to this incompatibility, is TurboCache the basic issue or is there something additional behind the bug? -TL_KJ5XF |

Development hasn't isolated this bug to Turbocache parts yet, so I can't say for certain.

Hi,
The new BETA driver (1.0-9625) aparently fixes he problem. ![]() I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 with this driver, I tried google earth and it runns smoothly. Besides that it seems to be a lot faster than the old driver and the fonts look better. You can get the driver here: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_do...etadriver.html |

Forget that!
I've just played quake 4 on linux. ![]() It crashed the first time on the level loading screen. Next 2 times no problem. I finished the single player demo and played 2 multiplayer games. --edit, I just ran it again-- Still no problem. Included some screenies to prove. Also, just fyi. I'm running Ubuntu 6.06.1 with the latest kernel from the repos (namely 2.6.15-27-k7) --EDIT: another edit-- It seems I was cheering a bit too early. While nVidia has definitly improved the stability with release 9625, my doom 3 locked up the 2nd time I ran it. I was able to play quake 3 and quake 4 without it locking up though. Also, I experience ALOT of framedrops in quake 3. Not alot in quake 4 and doom 3, but they are still there regularly. There are also framedrops in any of the 3d screensavers in Ubuntu. I have included nvidia-bug-report.log. Thanks nvidia for improving stability on the drivers, even though the chipset incompatibility has not entirely been fixed yet. Keep up the good work. Hello Lonni,
Any news for this bug? It's really difficult to work thinking that the system is going to freeze in any moment.... Is it any way to disable some acceleration functionalities in the xorg.conf to have more stability? ( I only need tv-out) p.e. disable render acceleration, or something similar. Thanks in advance. |

In any case. This bug has not been fixed yet in 9626.

Hi,
I'm starting to like this situation. When i'm talking to someone about videocards I tell them "You know, I have a nVidia Special Edition Card!!!"; they say "Really???" and I say "Yes! It's a GeForce 6600 WITHOUT 3D acceleration. It's great, you should buy one." ![]() |
