Well I haven't tried another distribution recently. But I'm pretty confident
when I say that the bug is distribution independant. I built the kernel module for 9626 from the installer and the bug is still there. Anyways I'm sticking with Ubuntu. Also just some speculation: the system only seems to freeze when the card is under a heavy load (whatever that means). Because I can still play quake 3 and in 99% of the cases it doesnt crash unless there are alot of players in the game. |

Yes, I can easy reproduce the crash using zoom in and zoom out faster in Mozilla Thunderbird (one extension) with jpg pictures (3MPixels), also with Google Earth...
The biggest problem is that NVIDIA don't really know where is the problem UFFFF !!!!. I don't want to use Windows, but... I will have to come to it if they don't solve the problem soon... |

MMRRMM:
Why don't you use the nvidia drivers that come with Ubuntu? (the "nv" module) They won't give you hardware acceleration. But atleast your system will become stable. |

Ginyal:
Yes, I use "nv" for normal use, when I have to use tv-out I change the driver. I have one "small" script to shut down gdm and change the xorg.conf and restart again. (with nv driver sometimes appears bad characters instead of letters and numbers, when I change resolution and come again it's ok, this is other reason to try to use the nvidia driver) I'm, thinking to buy one ati x300 or similar to substitute the nvidia 6200tc. Do you know if it it's better the driver support for ati graphic cards? Do you know if this bug only happens with ati chipset + nvidia card, or happens also when is ati + ati? ![]() |

Well it seems that is a chipset incompatibility. When you get an ATI
card the bug probably will be gone. Although last time I heard nVidia's Linux drivers are superior to ATI's. I'm not sure though. ![]() |

I think that there isn't a ChipSet Incompatibility because Windows in the same machine haven't any problem.
I'm tying Beta version of the driver and it seen to be a bit more stable but still have hangs. For your information you can try to sign in Open-Source Nvidia Drivers (http://www.petitiononline.com/nvfoss/petition.html) perhaps the Open Source Community can solve the problems. |

mmartinmate: I agree that nVidia ought to release open source drivers.
But I don't expect too much of it. *signs petition* |

I'm afraid that there's no estimate available at this time.
