Hello,
Im haveing trouble updating my kernel because im unable to load a new nvidia driver. I received this new kernel through a yum update on FC4. Everything seems to work fine on the kernel that came with the distribution origionaly but none of the updated kernels will work. Everything seems to build fine but when I load the module for any newer kernel i get... dia: version magic '2.6.14-1.1656_FC4 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0' should be '2.6.14-1.1656_FC4 586 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0' FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.14-1.1656_FC4/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko): Invalid module format According to this message it looks like im using the correct compiler version but for some reason the target platform varies from 586 to 686. According to the /usr/src/kernel directory I have kernels 2.6.14-1.1653_FC4-i586 and 2.6.14-1.1656_FC4-i686. Of course i dont understand why yum changes from 586 to 686 for the update. Im not sure how to tell which kernel yum gave me but i would assume its the 586 one from the error message. Im new to yum having recently switched distros to FC4. |
