I'm after a new hardrive too now, I'll probably end up going with Maxtor since I have had no problems with the 30gb drive im using now

well another testimony ..yeah my 75 is still going on (IbM) but it's a matter of time I would look into seagate and maxtor .. no one else .. WD i've heard mixed bags to consider them .

I am happy with my Maxtor at the moment, but they dont do a 120GB 7200, and Seagate only do upto an 80 i belive..

I was going to buy 120GB Maxtor and just assumed it would have been 7200 (The same as IBM), just checked and it is only 5400.
If I was buying though I'd probably go with the Maxtor to be safe as you can probably get both of them for about the same price.

yes but i dont have that choice!!! the place im going to deals in only the IBM or the WD 120GBs!! I will have to travel to get the Maxtor drive...

even with the 120GXP's, IBM only recommends running the drive 8 hours a day. Any more than that, and they could fail. For them to make that recommendation, there must still be problems... That said, I'm using a 120GXP right now, and have had no problems. (knock on wood)

I'd still recommend the WD. I haven't heard of too many problems with their drives lately.

Well, I've got a 30 Gig IBM DeskStar, and I'm looking to get an 80 Gig. Maxtor soon. I've had one instance of UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DEVICE happen in Win2K. And, I know the failing of this drive is coming pretty soon.

good job neogeo, I knew you'd see the light on the maxtor..

these new maxtors really fly too, its like a wolf in sheeps clothing ever since they bought quantum.
