Default driver ignores sync settings in xorg.conf

My xorg.conf includes
Section "Monitor"
# will do 1280x1024@80Hz
Identifier "Nanao"
Option "DPMS"
HorizSync 30-86
VertRefresh 55-160

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "nvidia"
Monitor "Nanao"

And yet when I start X I get
(II) NVIDIA(0): Frequency information for CRT-0:
(II) NVIDIA(0): HorizSync : 15.000-79.000 kHz
(II) NVIDIA(0): VertRefresh : 56.000-75.000 Hz
(II) NVIDIA(0): (HorizSync from EDID)
(II) NVIDIA(0): (VertRefresh from EDID)

And that is what it uses, resulting in very low refresh rates. I believe the specs on the monitor (Nanao T2-17TS) are accurate. Further, in a closely related installation on the same machine I was able to achieve the advertised rates.

Full details are in the attached log.

Default Re: driver ignores sync settings in xorg.conf

Recent drivers indeed autodetect settings. If you don't want to use autodetection (the info is read from the monitor and is correct in most cases) you can add the line: Option "IgnoreEdid" and then it will use the info from the config file.
