/dev/dsp or /dev/audio, same as for the open source ALSA driver.

Try again to attach. But clicking on the paperclip takes me to a different upload-panel where I can browse to the files to be uploaded (two lines). Then again I loose them from sight coming back to this panel. Third time I try to upload. Confusing ....

You've not attached any bug reports in this thread. Please do so.

Thanks,
Lonni[/quote]
Hope you got them this time. (After typing in the filenames on my computer I clicked on "upload")

This time I renamed the files to be uploaded. Both of them are compressed with gzip and have names ending with gz. I renamed them to end in zip. So please remove the ending zip to obtain their real names (nforce-bug-report.log.gz and nvidia-installer.log.gz)
Thank you.

You've got two aliases for snd-card-0 in /etc/modprobe.d/sound, when you should only have the one for nvsound.

Right now, all of the ALSA sound modules are still loaded. After correcting the above problem, I'd suggest rebooting.

Thanks,
Lonni

Am afraid you still did not receive the bug report. Another try ...
Please be aware that the name of the uploaded file ends with .zip, but that is fake. The
real name is nforce-bug-report.log.gz, without the .zip . Otherwise the system does not
accept the file, so please rename.
Regards

Already tried a few times to send the zipped (=gzipped) ones, but doubt whether they arrived. Once again, unzipped.

The 2 bug reports that you've posted since my last comment do not have the changes I recommended.

Think I already corrected this yesterday. Two lines at the bottom of
/etc/modprobe.d/sound have been commented out by me:
#options snd-intel8x0 enable=1 index=0
#alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
I also looked if any alsa-modules were running:
lsmod | grep alsa
but nothing showed up.
My testing the card is done with
cat sound.wav > /dev/dsp ,
but this keeps my speakers totally silent. Is this the right way?
Thanks in advance.

The ALSA sound modules normally do not have the word 'alsa' in their name, so grepping for alsa in lsmod output is unlikely to return anything regardless of what you're using for sound support.

Cat'ting a wav file to /dev/dsp should work, however I'd suggest testing sound however you normally expect to use sound. I'm assuming that you don't normally cat wav files to use sound?

Also, please post an updated bug report that contains the changes that you made.

Thanks,
Lonni
