Default Unable to complete installation

Hi,

I just started using Mandriva 2006 just few days ago. I have managed to get some kernel done, but I was unable to finish the installation of the NVIDIA graphics driver, version 8178. My GFX is a GeForce 6600GT AGP version.

This is a list of kernel installed, I am not sure which kernel is required, so I installed all.. :S Anyways I will remove those that aren't needed.

Code:
kernel-2.6.12.15mdk-1-1mdk
kernel-i586-up-1GB-2.6.12.12mdk-1-1mdk
kernel-2.6.12.12mdk-1-1mdk
kernel-source-2.6-2.6.12-15mdk
kernel-smp-2.6.12.12mdk-1-1mdk
kernel-2.4.28.0.rc1.5mdk-1-1mdk
kernel-source-stripped-2.6-2.6.12-15mdk
Then following, able to run the nvidia graphics driver, after following some guide (http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/..._installation). Then error occured, something regarding about nvidia.ko . I didn't completely understand what does that means, so I have decided to wave for some help! Would someone point out to me what am I doing wrong or what I should actually be doing! Thanks for your feedback!

According to the log, the kernel module that you're trying to load was built for a different kernel than you're running:

nvidia: version magic '2.6.12-15mdk 686 gcc-4.0' should be '2.6.12-12mdk 686
gcc-4.0'

What does "uname -a" return?

Hello again,

Anyways I had to reformat my hdd, due to some unexpected error on my mandriva, after last night I tried to install new version of OpenOffice , then my USB mouse refused to work after installation. I will try to install the NVIDIA driver in a sec. Will update if I am able to install it. Else, would need some help again

Ok, it still doesn't work. After I followed the steps from the website. Still showing me something about nvidia.ko

nvidia: version magic '2.6.12-17mdk 686 gcc-4.0' should be '2.6.12-12mdk 686 gcc-4.0'

The problem persists, the kernel source tree you built the NVIDIA kernel module against has a version that differs from the one of the running kernel. You need to install the proper kernel source tree or update your kernel to match the installed kernel source tree in order to be able to install/load the NVIDIA Linux kernel module.

The source package for the 2.6.12-12mdk kernel should be available from the same place you obtained the kernel package from, i.e. either the installation CD or, if the kernel was an update kernel, from a Mandriva mirror site. The package will be called something like kernel-source-2.6-2.6.12-12mdk.i586.rpm.
