Default X-Server crash with OpenGL apps (GeForce 6200 SE)

Hi all,

I installed nvidia driver for GeForce 6200 SE with Turbocache from the ubuntu repository. Since then, my X-Server would hang when I have an OpenGL app running and I attempt to switch between other windows and my OpenGL app window. I am just guessing that I have a wrong driver installed. I am attaching the report I generated with the nvidia bug report script.

Please find the bug report at this URL: http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~murali/nvidia-bug-report.log

Thanks

Does this reproduce with 1.0-8178?
Which application(s) are you running that reproduce this problem?
Does this reproduce if you disable the framebuffer (vesafb)?

Thanks,
Lonni

Thanks for your prompt reply. I will upgrade to 8178 version this evening and will let you know if the crash still persists.

Thanks,
mdh

Hi Lonni,

I installed the 1.0-8178 driver and the results were not pretty. My X-Server would not start and when I look at the error log I found this message Fatal Error: Recived Signal 11. This error was raised when loading the glx module.

Thanks,
mdh

@mdh: did this occur immediately following the NVIDIA Linux graphics driver installation or following a reboot?

Zander,

This occured after reboot. Intrestingly, after I had the driver installed, I started the gdm and X came up nicely and I was even able to verify that I was running 1.0.8178 driver but after I did a reboot things went haywire.

@mdh: the problem is likely /etc/init.d/nvidia-glx; please make sure all Ubuntu NVIDIA driver packages are uninstalled, remove the above script if it still exists and reinstall the NVIDIA driver. This should resolve the problem.
