Default Overlay problems with 8178 and Xorg-6.9.0 on Quadro Cards

I have used 8178 drivers with Xorg-6.8.2 with
Option "Overlay" "On"
Now, after upgrading to Xorg-6.9.0, enabling Overlay makes all qt (qt-3.3.4/5) applications look corrupted - particular, wigets' labels does not sit where they should - the are moved around.
Gtk and Motif apps are not affected.

I'v found a way to deal with it - together with 'Option "Overlay" "On"', 'Option "RenderAccel" "On"' has to be set as well - this fixes the problem.

This look strange to me, since:
a. "Composite" extension is disabled anyway
b. I did not have to set RenderAccel with Xorg-6.8.2 (neither with NVIDIA-6xxx, nor NVIDIA-8xxx drivers)

On the other hand - there are no any side-effects so far.

nvidia-bug-report.sh attached.

Any comments?

I'm not able to reproduce this problem on a system that I have here with KDE/qt-3.3.4 and Overlay=True in the X configuration.

Specifically which applications reproduce this problem?
Is Xorg-6.9 required to reproduce the problem?
Can you capture this corruption in a screenshot?

Thanks,
Lonni

Yes, Xorg-6.9.0 is required to trigger the bug - with Xorg-6.8.2 everything works fine.
I do not know if Xorg-7.0.0 is affected as well.

Ok. More info:
a. Screenshots attached. I've found the first GTK application that looks corrupted as well (but in th other way) - its a GIMP (screen short attached - note the yellow frame).
b. With or without certain fonts in FontPath, qt apps _crash_ X server when they are loaded (and console remains garbled). Xorg.0.log attached.

And again, setting RenderAccel together with Overlay solves all those problems.

I'm afraid that I'm still not able to reproduce these problems.

Which Linux distribution are you using, and where did you obtain the Qt package that you're using?

Thanks,
Lonni

I'm using LinuxFromScratch http://www.linuxfromscratch.org
Qt was compiled according to 'Beyond LinuxFromScarch'.

May be I'll try it with some other distro that uses Xorg-6.9.0 or 7.0.0.

Or may be its Quadro FX 1400 specific bug - but that would be very surprising.

I was testing with an FX1400 when I could not reproduce the problem. Granted, I wasn't running LFS at the time, however knowing whether you can reproduce this with any other distribution would be useful information.

Thanks,
Lonni
