Hello,
I've been running Kubuntu Dapper for a while now and have run into trouble with my Geforce Go 7800. When I kill X, compile the driver, change xorg.conf and do 'startx' everything works just fine. But when I reboot, things get icky. X launches and I see the NVIDIA logo for a split second before the image scrambles (more like sections of pixels get randomly moved around) and the system becomes unreponsive (ctrl+alt+f1 takes me nowhere, it doesn't even shutdown when I hit the power button). Yes, the patch provided has been applied. Looking at the Xorg log it seems to freeze while loading GLX. Why then does it work just fine when freshly compiled and installed? This was repeatable, so it wasn't a fluke. |

As this is a Debian system, I'm guessing that you have an nvidia-glx init script. If so, delete it, reinstall the nvidia X driver, and that should resolve this problem. If not, then please generate and provide an nvidia-bug-report.log for review.
Thanks, Lonni |
