AGP not initializing

Hi everyone,
I'm currently using the Nvidia 4191 drivers, and have tried 3123 as well, and no matter what I try, agp doesn't initialize. /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status always tells me disabled. I've tried NvAGP set to 1, 2 and 3, with AGPGART installed and without. dmesg and messages don't tell me anything, and the XFree logs only have one relevant line:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Failed to verify AGP usage
I have an MSI 645 Ultra motherboard, with an Elsa Gladiac 921DVI (GeForce 3 ti500). Can anyone tell me why this isn't working, and/or what I have to do to fix this? It's incredibly frustrating having a gaming box and only getting 25fps in UT2K3 at 800x600

Which chipset is that motherboard? Is it supported by either agpgart or nvagp?

Umm... what else...

Maybe it's the PnP OS setting in the BIOS? Set it to no (this way, the BIOS initializes all devices on the system). Set "Assign IRQ to VGA" to yes while you're at it. I don't think that would cause this problem, but you never know...

Hmm... Motherboard is a SiS645 (MSI 645 Ultra). I think it's supported by both. The board has been assigned IRQ 11. And I'm pretty sure that the BIOS is set to PnP OS, everything else works just fine (I think).

I'm not quite sure I follow what you're saying -- is the PnP OS setting set to yes, or no? It sounds like it's set to yes; this is not where it should be. It should be set to no for best results with all devices (network cards are especially sensitive to this setting in Linux, but other devices may be as well).

Setting it to no really doesn't have anything to do with PnP. All that it does is make the BIOS initialize all devices. If it's set to yes, then the BIOS initializes "critical" devices only, and lets the OS initialize the rest. Well, this is redundant for one.

The other problem is, I don't have any idea how the BIOS decides whether or not a device is "critical". I would think that video cards would be, but some people have had problems with video cards that were solved by setting that to No, so their BIOSes obviously didn't agree with me.

In short, unless I misunderstood what you said, set it to no and see if that helps.

Hrm... just had a look at the bios, I must have been thinking of my old box, this one doesn't seem to have a PnP OS setting. Strange. Any other ideas?

Maybe someone from nVidia knows more about the possible causes of that "failed to verify" message? (hint, hint! )

Hrm.... I was about to start searching the sources, before remembering that's it's the nvidia_drv.o, not the kernel module, that's causing problems... Are you hinting that an nvidia employee should answer (read: Andy Mecham), or I should mail the bugs address?
