I'm running Gentoo with a 2.6.15 kernel on an AMD64. I've attached the bug report.

Forgot to mention, with the 6200 I was unable to SSH and had to hard reset. With the 6600 I can SSH althoug the problem is identical(!) and thats how I produced the bug report.
What motherboard do you have? I've been seeing a lot of those APIC errors, that's really not a good sign. It likely means your kernel's APIC drivers are bad, they should be disabled.

Apic wasn't supported properly on my old NForce 2 till around kernel 2.6.7.

that full freeze looks pretty familiar. I've seen it with a completely different piece of hardware (a webcam). it happens because of the way gcc 4.0, which is shipped which today's distors, compiles stuff. so you need to compile your nvidia module with gcc 3.4

I recommend this thread, using method 2

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...=latest+nvidia

with adaptations where sudo is used (you can just su and follow all steps as root) and for the various package names. or... if you have ubuntu... just follow it to the letter

(no, the howto isn't written by me, so I probably won't be able to troubleshoot if it doesn't work, but it is a very good one, which I've used myself and many others and just worked)

I have an MSI RS480M2. I have just rebooted the machine with 'noapic irqpoll' and will let you know if this resolves the problem. Strange I remember trying these options a few months ago when I was trying to get rid of those messages and the machine wouldn't boot, although it was probably an older kernel.

I've just had the crash again, so unfortunately this didn't resolve it.

For anyone who finds this with google, I've tried all of the following without success:
1. Upgraded to Xorg 7.0.
2. Upgraded to 2.6.16 kernel.
3. Upgraded to nvidia drivers 8756.
4. Found that i2c was using the nvidia module so removed that from the kernel build.

Hi!

I have the same problems with system freezes (tft switch to standby, can't log in with ssh anymore, restart button only way out) at my system.
Sometimes i can play a hour without a system freeze, sometimes the system freeze happens after a few minutes.

My system:

Debian testing
Kernel 2.6.16.9
Xorg 6.9
Nvidia 8756 drivers
EVGA 7800GS CO Card
Fastwrites off
SBA on

But i will try the hints with

noapic acpi=off

and

NvAGP=0

maybe this stops the system freezes...

Hi!

Ok, i've tested this with different settings:

Quote:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.16-ck7-9-k7 root=/dev/sda1 ro noapic acpi=off
Quote:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.16-ck7-9-k7 root=/dev/sda1 ro noapic
and

Quote:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.16-ck7-9-k7 root=/dev/sda1 ro acpi=off
and i tested this also with a vanilla 2.6.16.9 kernel without the ck patchset but the problem still appears.

Any hints how we can fix this problem? Thanks in advance for an reply.

well, i brought my card back to the store
but i tried another one: geforce 6600GT from evga.
this one really works nice and smooth. No crash so far.

PS: I changed my hardware, now i have a amd3200+ 64 bit but runnin in linux 32 (ubuntu) if that helps anything. I havent tried the 64bit version yet, though i have heard that the drivers should wlrk

I'm running a 6600 as well, having previously tried a 6200. The difference is I'm running Gentoo 64-bit. I think this is a 64-bit driver problem. By the way I've found that a quick way to make it fail is to stress the cpu. For instance I can watch a film and although it would eventually crash, if I kick off a compile at the same time I get almost an instant crash. Try stressing your cpu.

Hi!

I've done some tests and switch back to the old 8178 drivers with the patches available here in this forum. Now only the game crashs, not the whole system...
