I had to RMA my 7900 so I'm playing on the 7800 GTX 512s. The 7900 is faster than the 7800 GTX 512 but I'm not sure by how much since I had so many issues with my 7900 (I never had a chance to figure all that out). Anyway, I need to double-check settings and stuff since I just quickly did a spot check right before retiring for the night but here is a very rough estimate.

1920x1200, HDR on, 16xAF, spot check when you first get outside, I'm pretty sure I also had the land LOD tweak applied. Also, the 7800 system is at 2.7ghz while the XTX system is at 2.53. I'll level the playing field tonight and test again.

7800 GTX 512: 15 fps
X1900 XTX: 26 fps
7800 GTX 512 SLI: 29 fps

Ok thanks - thats a major jump in FPS with the X1900XTX.

I thought maybe there was a bug or two in the 79 cards performance but TBH it seems quite clear that ATI owns Oblivion.

(actually makes loads of sense when you factor in the X360 version as well.....)

Dont bother re-running the test lol - thats was conclusive enough.

um so if the 7900 gtx runs at 20 or 21? Because ati has 5 frames on them they own? haha =)

I don't think any card owns this game. This game makes every card cry.

I as well, am sure the ATI x1900xtx runs this game better than the 7900GTX512SC.

you miss understand my intentions, It sounded from another thread like their might be a bug in the 79 cards performance (I dont own one so I cant check myself) however I can send bug reports to NVIDIA so If a bug was present I could help those with 79's.

I have no interest in which card is fastest.

As I see SLI 7800 GTXs scoring (a fair bit) higher than my 7900GTXs, I'll buy that. Perhaps I've just done something silly like enable vsync or something, will have to check. But I cranked the resolution right down and the game still didn't run properly - something doesn't seem right.

again you are not getting the point, FFS - throw the dog a f**kin bone.

I asked OWA to check simply because another user raised a concern that the 79 cards performance was unusually slow compaired to the X1900 (I thought it must be a mistake - a difference sure but not huge??)

I was wrong, there is a big difference and one that was easily reproduced.

I'm still lost as to this big difference? 5 frames is a huge difference now? I'm not trying to troll or get into a what card is better flame war, lol.

I could care less but 5 frames to me is not some huge difference and thats all i am saying. People keep claimning that the 7900 are bugged or run badly, but considering i have a LOW end system with a 7900gt and i can run at max details i think thats kinda obvious its not true. So if the point is that the xtx currently runs 5 frames faster or somthing then the 7900gtx then ok your all correct =)

5 frames is not HUGE difference.

In all fairness, when 5fps is a 20% increase, then IMO its a pretty big deal.

Carry on.

sure but when you have fluctuating fps like oblivion currently has. the frames are ALL over the place constantly. You can go from 70 to 5 froma wolf running torwards you somtimes, and other times not. To me its more of an engine issue then a which card is better issue.

Your not listening, I've already re-stated that my question to OWA was never about which card is better. FFS I give up.
