Well, I just lost my main save game file. Oblivion tries to load it but will either crash to desktop or completely lock the machine. If you're tweaking the INI, I would highly recommend making a backup for you save game files (even though .bak files are created automatically). At least I wasn't too far into the game. I wanted to do what someone suggested in saving your game right before you exit the sewers so you have the option to change your race, etc without having to go through the tutorial again.

I'm not too crazy about that better water plug in. The first lake out of the tutorial sewers has zero fog underwater which doesn't look right either. There's a slaughterfish there that's glowing bright orange with this plugin.

I'd think pushing the underwater fog out to 40-50 feet or so would be fine.

Anyone know how to make things (rocks, items, land lod, etc) stop LOD popping?

I have distance terrain, and all the fades are on full. I had the ugrid set to 9 but that really hurt water reflections.

On a related note, I'm baffled as to why they are called fades in the video options (Object fade, Item fade etc)? I see nothing fading....you come over a hill and some island maybe 750 feet away...all of a sudden my HD starts spinning and POP! my framerate stops and the LOD kicks in with a bunch of assets, then a second later the reflection in the water changes to match the new assets. I'm also baffled as to why they didn't do fades between mips of the large land textures.

Fairly annoying as it's breaking the immersion. Why is this reminding me of a when I had to write that tech faq of Ultima IX.

Well thanks in advance if anyone knows how to fix it in the INI.

Does anyone know if theres a way to run 2 instances of the editor at once? Its really irritating having to go back and forth and load the entire .esm file over again to compare 2 different plugins.

Theres a "details" button to see what a plugin changes but it doesnt give enough information.

Agreed. I don't mind low res distant textures or the tiled near ones, but the change between them is so sudden and dramatic it ruins most panoramic views. I actualy thought it was a game or driver bug first time I saw it.

Well, I just made a tiny clearer water plugin. It doesnt effect the surface water at all (unlike the other patch). So you shouldnt get any of the glitches.

Its extremely tiny (less than 1k) so I can just attach it here.

I made the fog underwater a little more blue (more noticeable in the middle of the day... in the morning and evening itl still be greenish from the low sun), reduced the overall foggyness of the water and made the distance go out quite a bit farther than normal, but nowhere near as excessive as the other clear water plugin.

Enjoy! And let me know if theres anything that doesnt look right. I know the water is much clearer than normal, but I personally thought the water looked like a nasty bog before. It looks much prettier when its clear.

Instructions:

Download the zip. Put the .esp file into your Oblivion\Data\ folder, then in the Oblivion Launcher, enable it in the data files menu.

And just to clarify, this patch has no effect unless you are underwater. It just improves visibility when you are underwater.

If you want more clear water when ABOVE water, change this value in your My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini file:
uDepthRange=125
change to:
uDepthRange=175
200+ works as well, but to me it looked a bit too clear.

My guess is click Data Files on the Oblivion Launcher and add/enable it there.
