Besides the mode tertsi was using, 6xS made the biggest difference for me in the place I was testing but the difference was so small, I don't consider it worth using. My framerate hardly changed, if at all with the SS modes but I think the hit is minor b/c it doesn't seem to be doing much.

Ok a few people have asked me what settings i personally use in my ini. So I figured i would toss my specific settings out here. With descriptions of what they do. One of these days I'm going to fully edit the first post so it will be much more understandable and detailed. In order to unmix the tweaks and the 'fixes'

So here are the changes i personally use. I also use the normal map texture pack for the lod and the lod texture map and a mod that increases the detail on the character models normal maps.

Quote:
KK in order to do this and get decent results I decreased the density of my grass a bit. But I also have a few other tweaks. So im not sure if all my tweaks together create an atmosphere for better performance or not. here are my current tweaks

bUseHardDriveCache=1 <- self explanatory setting
iPreloadSizeLimit=52428800 <- System memory usage
bAllowPartialPrecision=0 <- I don't allow the use of partial precision shaders. I'm an iq nut
iShadowMapResolution=512 <- decreases the shadow map resolution size to 512 from 1k with no visible iq difference. If you can see the difference let me know
iShadowFilter=2 <- No clue i remember messing with this setting once. not sure if i ever reset it to default or not.
bForceFullLOD=1 <- a value of 1 forces foreground trees to always render at the highest detail - I haven't found this to be a huge performance hit for the visual benefit, your mileage may very

uGridDistantTreeRange=30 <- DOUBLES DISTANCE OF TREE BILLBOARDS default is 15 (this is the setting you asked about

iMinGrassSize=120 <- Lowers the density of grass, slightly. enough to allow me to increase the distance of this.
fGrassEndDistance=4000.0000
fGrassStartFadeDistance=3000.0000 <these 2 are self explanatory those are tehdefaults I set both to 2x the distance so mine are

fGrassEndDistance=8000.0000
fGrassStartFadeDistance=7000.0000

and last but not least.
iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=4 <- default is 2, this changes the different types of grass textures per texture. increasing visual experiance.

bAllow30Shaders=1 <- default is zero. Why i have no clue. does it effect anything i have no clue. But if it does or ever does i figured i should leave it on just in case haha.

I notice than when you are in outdoor areas, there a numerous times when scenery, buildings etc "pop-up" as you walk around.
Is there anyway to lessen these instances ??
Is there some adjustment to a setting in either the Options or the .ini file ??

cheers

I did more tweaking - "kinda AA" + "DOF" + "HDR Booster" (post processing filters) ...

Same post processing filter applied to Brothers in Arms...

To decrease popin: Only way is to increase your ugridtoload settings in the ini from the original 5 to 7 - 9 or 11.

Be aware this cuts into your framerate exponentially. Additionally, it causes the NPC hopping bug.

My advice is keep it at 7 if you find the framerate acceptable.

Tertsi do you have an esm for that? Or want to publish your ini settings for that HDR booster? Is it ATI or Nvidia specific?

This is not ini based or hardware specific tweak

That looks really nice.
Doesnt seem to give *that* much "edge AA" effect, but the alpha blended textures look really good in those screens, and TSAA is pretty damn heavy in this game hehe..

I made post processing filters (you'll need DXTweaker to use them )

OK got DXTweaker installed. What are your settings you are using for Oblivion? I'm running a 7800GT (OCed a bit) with a Athlon 3800+ SLI.

Those are some definatly interesting screens there tersi. With the post filter does that enchance the existing hdrr or replace it ? If it replaces it does it do all the same, effects?
