Default NVIDIA 6200SE and freezes

Hello,

sorry for my english im from germany and not good in english.

My configuration:

NVIDIA GeForce 6200SE, TurboCache 256 MB
AMD Athlon 64 Prozessor 3200+
Suse Linux 10 64 Bit

MyProblem:

My computer freezes sometime and i dont know where the problem is. I think the nvidia-driver is the problem. I have installed the newest nvidia-driver with YOU (the suse linux update tool) and sometime my pc freezes without a warning before.

here some error logs before freezing:

It sounds like your kernel has faulty APIC drivers.

add "noacpi noapic" to your kernel boot line in lilo or grub, or disable it in the kernel configuration when you're compiling a kernel

Hello,

i have done this before (noapic), but after booting suse linux 10 with noapic, my movies are too fast and some other problems come. "noapic" is not the answer for me.

When i boot knoppix 5, then i have the same problem with to fast movies. With windows xp i have no problems with these pc, only under linux.

Try downloading and compiling the latest kernel from kernel.org and reinstalling the latest nvidia module with the patches (stickied in thread above). I use SUSE and would not trust the autoupdater for things like the kernel and nvidia drivers.

If you continue having the problem be sure to enable magic sysrq key and follow the instructions under Documentation/sysrq.txt to get a kernel trace when the machine hangs. Don't ask lkml for any help though, as they will not help with proprietary drivers. I'm sure a trace would be useful to the devs here though.

Movies too fast? Using PIC instead of APIC would not cause that to my knowledge. A bad RTC driver could do that.

Your kernel might be misconfigured. Upgrade to the latest stable kernel, in Device Drivers, Character Devices, disable "Enhanced Real Time Clock Support"
In Processor Type and Features, disable Local APIC support, and IO-Apic

It sounds like Linux does not support your board that well. You might be able to get apic functioning properly with a newer kernel, maybe.

This isn't likely a nvidia problem, it's a hardware support problem in general with your chipset.
