No doubt, this has already been done, and I'm just a wee bit too stunned to have
found it. However, when a thread related to a problem runs on for dozens of entries or even dozens of pages of entries, and if a solution is found for the problem, why not have a link to that solution posted in a very easily found place near the top of the thread or even in a separate thread of solutions. For example, in trying to get an Ubuntu system to use the nVidia nvnet network driver rather than the standard forcedeth driver, I stumbled across this thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=57791 On page 23 of 28 pages of entries, in entry #337 of 410 entries (so far), there is a reference to this link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=86125 which in turn points to this beautiful explanation of how to get the nVidia NFORCE nvnet network driver to be used in preference to the forcedeth driver that comes standard with Ubuntu: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NvNetInstallationHowTo How handy it would have been to find that in some sticky thread of solved problems. By the way, the nVidia nvnet driver rocks! No more system lockups on our Asus A8N-SLI Premium mobo during large network transfers. |
