Is there a reason why you aren't using the open source drivers instead of nvsound?

How can I uninstall the nForce Drivers?
I now installed both net driver and audio driver through the method providing above and according to the nForce drivers' ReleaseNote.
But just the both seem not to work well.The nvnet was usually instead of the forcednet driver,but sometimes not.And the audio driver can't make the os to music again.The sound sometimes spouted,sometimes didn't.I bewildered so much!
Just as you said that why not using the open source ones?!
But I want to tell you that why I use the nvidia's offical ones, because of believing that the offical ones can get the better performance, but it's truly the opposite.It made me sad!

The driver can be uninstalled with the --uninstall option.

Thanks,
Lonni

Could please give an example, where do you use the uninstall option if I just want to unstall the nvsound and keep the net drivers?
Thanks,
Dylan

Oops, used brain, read the run file:

use '-e --uninstall' and use the 'enter' key to select/deselect what you want to uninstall. Works fine, lasts a long time. Thanks, Dylan

Unhappy Re: FC5 fail to load "nvsound.ko"

I'm posting to this list because my first symptom fit the title.

My computer is an Athlon 64 machine running Fedora Core 5, 64 bit. The sound has never worked.

I've followed all of the directions given in the list (Thanks, wang.), but I still have no sound. The attached zip file contains copies of my /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, /var/log/dmesg, nforce-bug-report.log, /etc/rc.local, and scsound.log. scsound.log was produced when I ran system-config-soundcard.

scsound.log indicates that I am running the ALSA mixer. /proc/asound/modules says that I am using snd_intel8x0, which I think is a driver module. Shouldn't I be loading the nvsound module instead? If so, how do I do that?

Shall I also send this report to linux-nforce-bugs@nvidia.com? Is there a "better" list to report this problem to?

Thanks.

There is a known bug where the nvsound module fails to load and/or build under FC5. However, currently the ALSA drivers are what is recomended for FC5, rather than NFORCE (OSS).

Thanks,
Lonni

I hope this isn't the final word on the matter? It would really be a shame to lose hardware mixing and dolby out on my nforce2...

Thumbs up Re: FC5 fail to load "nvsound.ko"

guys, i've got it working 100%
i will describe all i've done
i've downloaded the NFORCE installer and wang's patch
patched it like wang said
removed from /etc/modprobe.conf :
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
options snd-intel8x0 index=0
remove snd-intel8x0 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0

and added:
alias snd-card-0 nvsound
alias sound-slot-0 nvsound
install nvsound /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install nvsound; sleep 1; /usr/bin/nvmix-reg -f /etc/nvmixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove nvsound {/usr/bin/nvmix-reg -f /etc/nvmixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove nvsound

after this i've edited /etc/rc.local, adding:
/usr/bin/nvmix-reg -f /etc/nvmixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1

and edited /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt , adding :
if grep -q "\(nvsound\)" /proc/modules && [ -x /usr/bin/nvmix-reg ]; then
/usr/bin/nvmix-reg -f /etc/nvmixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1
fi

and removing:
grep -q "\(alsa\)" /proc/devices
if [ $? = 0 -a -x /usr/sbin/alsactl ]; then
runcmd $"Saving mixer settings" alsactl store
fi

to stop loading ALSA drivers, i've added this lines to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist:
# ALSA drivers
blacklist snd_intel8x0
blacklist snd_ac97_codec
blacklist snd_ac97_bus

and it's done

i am not a linux expert, and my english is very poor, i've just posted it here because i've seen a lot of people having trouble with this driver

i think that somebody should stick this solution, because i've spent a lot of time to solve this problem and everybody is spending too, even givin' up

I appreciate your post, D_CrOsS. I applied your changes first to the changes that I'd made earlier, then to the original files. In both cases, my sound device is no longer being detected at all. I have sent a bug report to bugzilla.redhat.com.
