The fact that your screenshot is in color suggests a scanout problem.

Unfortunately, I'm not having any success reproducing this with your X configuration (and an MX4000 card) on a TV here.

My only guesses at this point, is that this is specific to your motherboard, TV, or kernel.

Hi,

What do you mean by scanout problem?

I tried the folowing:
- three different kernels
- two different televisions
- a new SVIDEO cable

About three weeks ago I had no problem with my motherbord, so I don't belive this is the problem.

Do you have any other suggestions I can try out?

Thanks,

Andrej

Scanout is basically the signal that gets sent to the display device. So the signal going to the TV is lacking color, even though it has color before scanout.

1.0-8756 was released this morning. Can you test that? I'm afraid that I don't have any other suggestions beyond that, as I can't reproduce this here.

Thanks,
Lonni

I tried your newest driver too but this also does not help. Are there any other people out there with black&white problems? Are there any user-space packages that could inflict this fadeout? Do you think reinstalling my whole system would solve the problem?
Thanks,
Andrej

I doubt that reinstalling the OS would have any impact, but its up to you if you want to try. The most common factors impacting driver behavior are motherboard, videocard, BIOS, kernel, X server version and X configuration.

Could any of the following Debian packages have any to do with it?

nvidia-glx - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x driver
nvidia-glx-legacy - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x driver (legacy version)
nvidia-glx-legacy-dev - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x driver development files
nvidia-kernel-legacy-source - NVIDIA binary kernel module source (legacy version )

Thanks,

Andrej

The might, if they're being actively used, however I was under the impression that the legacy packages were for the 1.0-7174 driver. You certainly wouldn't need the nvidia-glx* packages at all if you're using the official NVIDIA driver package (from nvidia.com). nvidia-kernel-legacy-source would only be relevant for the kernel that you're using with the nvidia driver.

This may be a dumb question this late in the thread, but is there any chance you're using one of those S-VIDEO to composite adapters? If so, what happens if you change TVOutFormat to COMPOSITE?

Yes I am using one of those plugin adapters, but have tried SVIDEO-to-SVIDEO too, without success. Also, I have always used SVIDEO for TVOutFormat before (I backup all my config-files regularely). But it all doesn't matter anymore: I can see colors now!

You're a saint, thanks alot!

I'm glad to hear that you've got this resolved, but I'm confused. What change did you make to fix this?

Thanks,
Lonni

I changed the TVOutFormat from SVIDEO to COMPOSITE.

I had the same problem and changed TVOutFormat from SVIDEO to COMPOSITE did the trick also

I have the nvidia driver (from nvidia.com) version 1.0-8762 and I run Xorg 7.0 on debian. The problem appeared after switching to Xorg7.0

Thanks a lot,

Yann
