Default Few glclocks kill FreeBSD

I launched 5 glclocks and 2 glgears.

System became almost unresponsive.

Load went to 8.5, CPU usage 55% user/45% system.
GL apps worked with interruptions, but everything else was horribly slow, even mouse pointer almost didn't move. GPU temperature went to 92C degrees (ambient temperature was 45C).

Is this normal?

I think this is NVidia driver (1.0-8178) problem. GPU should be busy, but why OS itself is so busy? Apps only supply bunch of triangles, driver should just pass them to GPU and it should do the rest.

I use 6800GT, FreeBSD 6.1-PRERELEASE (32-bit) on AMD-64 3200.

Default Re: Few glclocks kill FreeBSD

For comparison, my system shows the following under the same conditions:

load averages: 1.16, 1.23, 0.92
CPU states: 59.8% user, 0.0% nice, 21.9% system, 18.4% interrupt, 0.0% idle

I have no problems whatsoever with system rsponsiveness - everything is smooth. I'm writing this reply with 5 glclocks and 2 glxgears running. When I started this, portmanager was running niced, building some KDE stuff. I killed it to get the loads without compiling going on in the background.

My system is 2.40 GHz P4 - HT disabled, FX 5200, 6.0-RELEASE.

While I am having problems with the nvidia drivers, speed or system loading is not one of them, and my GPU is significantly less powerful than yours.

In the ten minutes or so that it took me to write this reply, things haven't changed much:

load averages: 1.16, 1.17, 1.04
CPU states: 50.0% user, 0.0% nice, 33.3% system, 0.0% interrupt, 0.0% idle

I wonder what's causing your system to have so much more of a load.
