treblid,
According to the bug report you posted, you're not requesting a 1280x720@50 or @70 mode. If your "1280x720_75.00" & "1280x720_50.00" modelines aren't working, I'll need to see a bug report that captures it.

Thanks,
Lonni

OK.. Will do so later (I'm at work, no access to ssh).. But I think I mentioned this before (1280x720 or 1920x1080 is fine). Havn't tried anything lower... Using my custom modelines will just make it select to nvidia-auto-select...

I'm using component out..

The same problem here. It worked with previous version of the driver, and now it does not work. Here's nvidia-bug report in the attach.

After some discussion with development, the issue here is likely that custom Modelines in an X configuration are not supported for TV-out, and were not supported in previous driver releases either. The key difference is that in past drivers those custom modelines were silently rejected, such that it seemed like they were working, even though they were not. This behavior is intentional, as the TV encoders on videocards are only capable of programming a limited number of modes.

treblid, how did you determine that you were not receiving 50 or 75Hz refresh rates with the default mode?

Thanks,
Lonni

Incorrect. As I said previously, I can get 1280x720@50/75 and even 1280x768@50x75 with 8178. In fact, the modelines were not silently rejected, they were "verbosely accepted" and used..

Though it used to always says my modelines have vrefresh out of sync or something (fix by setting my refresh rates very high to 250 in xorg.conf to get these modelines accepted)

So what worked in earlier drivers was actually a bug?

I noticed that my bug report says 720p works in both NTSC and PAL mode. But how do I tell my Nvidia card to output 720p PAL? Maybe that will force it to go 50hz?

I also had custom modelines "verbosely accepted" on 8178 and on 7676. They were silently dropped on some short-lived version in between there, but a quick fix was release within a couple of weeks when that happened.

I can be quite sure the custom modes were being used because
a) when they stopped working my resolution dropped to 640x480
b) the standard mode, once I changed to it, had timings different enough that I had to readjust the positioning of the video on the screen to make it fit correctly.

Lonni, I disagree that modelines should be ignored for tv-out. For example, suppose you are running component-out at 1080i, but you want the X windows resolution to be something like 1800x900 in order to center that resolution within the tv output? The only way I can see to construct such an arbitrary viewport size is to use modelines.

Lonni,
that was it, thanks. I just edit my MetaModes line and it works. Here's what i did:

Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024_89.00, 1280x1024_89.00; 1024x768_100.00, 1024x768_100.00; 800x600, 800x600;"
Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024_89.00, 1280x1024; 1024x768_100.00, 024x768; 800x600, 800x600;"

The second one is the one that works. The only thing is that gnome-display-properties shows me 1024x768@50 instead of @100, even thoe the refresh rate is ok (100 Hz). Probably some bug in that gnome tool, or something. I'm sending you the new bug-report log anyway. Thanks again Lonni. Cheers!

Huh, but I've just discovered the new problem, all the multimedia applications (Mplayer, Xine, Totem) show me only a blue screen :-/ What the heck is that? How can I make all these apps working? Thanks. Cheers!

Hm, it does not work with default xv video driver (shows a blue screen), but it works fine with other video drivers (x11, gl and gl2). BTW which one would you recommand us to use? OpenGL with multiple textures (gl2) maybe? I'm just asking. I don't know, maybe you've optimised your drivers to give best performance and stability with some of them.

Thanks. Cheers!

What ended up working for me was changing to

Modes "720x480"

without using a modeline. myth works, mplayer works, so far anyway it's only been an hour.
