kopete crashes X with composite enabled

as subject says, every time i enable composite under kde with its own composite manager and i get a message from kopete (with AND without the baloon) X crashes (with every nvidia driver i tested since 6629). In the end of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log i get something like:

if you need something more please tell me. Is this a known problem to nvidia? I know i'm not the only one having it... Other than that great driver release

I experienced this in every version of kde / kopete / xorg / nvidia untill few minutes ago when I installed latest nvidia drivers. With this driver composing is rock solid. I am abusing this for the last 30 minutes (and one of the first tests was kopete message bubble) and so far I have to say good work nvidia.

kde 3.5.2 and kopete 0.11.1. But this is happening with every release of kde/kopete, since 3.3 for sure. On the gentoo forums other ppl got the same problem btw...

I've had this too, in every driver release up to those released today (8756) where it appears to be fixed.

kmare, could be a shot in the dark, but I think that using Xorg < 6.9 would have something to do with this bug and latest driver (8756). benjiman, sasha, are you using Xorg >= 6.9?

No, sorry, I just browsed kmare's bug report, he is on Xorg 7.0 though.

i'm using the modular Xorg server 7.0 on gentoo. I edited the ebuilds that are in portage to install the new driver. At first it was working just fine with kopete and composite.. for about one hour, but suddenly it crashed i tried again just in case it was something else and after some time i got that crash again...

As I said I was almost sure it was kopete bug (i filed report on kde bugs) but with new Nvidia driver (8756) it all works for almost an hour now.

I rebooted system just to make sure everything starts fine. Kopete is now crashing X in a same way as before Another thing I noticed is that before reboot glxgears were showing up 1200FPS and now 230FPS. I should have just left everything alone as it was working so nice.

i dont think its a kopete bug

reason why : i tryed using kopete with composite with the Xorg NV driver ( the open source one ) and kopete never crashed

can anyone confirm this ?! that kopete doesnt crash never with composite and Xorg NV driver ?

Don't know what causes it but I'm also running kopete, 0.12 beta 1, and with composite on X does crash every hour or so.

I'm running Debian Unstable / Experimental with Xorg 7.0:

When you enable a composite manager, glxgears fps drastically decrease. I think when you try the first time, they were no composite manager running (remember that you have to restart KDE after you enable kompmgr in kcontrol in order to use it)

EDIT : I try to reproduce the bug, I'm using debian sid, all packages are from official repositories except kopete, I use kopete 0.12 from kopete svn (and nvidia 8756 from nvidia) and it doesn't crash with xcompmgr and kompmgr. May be you can give it a try.

PS : I use a 64 bit distro, I don't know if this have any impact.
