Default Problems loading 1.0-8756 Driver

Just got through installing the latest NVIDIA driver on a FC5 box, using the updated kernel-2080. Unfortunately, I'm getting the same "GLX not loading" message, as well as "nvidia module not loading" message.

Any suggestions on a solution?

It looks like you don't have the correct glx installed or the driver:
(II) LoadModule: "glx"
(II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
(II) Module glx: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 0.2

Did you install the xorg-x11-server-sdk RPM before installing 1.0-8756? If so, please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

No. But I guess that's why the modules wouldn't load in the first place

So upon your suggestion, I just utilized Livna YUM to install the SDK package, then installed the driver on the 2080 kernel and my custom "2.6.16-prep" kernel, and now it works like a charm.

Thanks for your help Lonni,

I have:

xorg-x11-server-sdk.i386 1.0.1-9 installed

I still get problems loading the otherwise happily built driver. Attached are relevant logs.

cd /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers
ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so .
ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so .
ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o . (maybe you don't need this one, but I haven't tried without it.)

And, hey presto, I have it up and running.

Had to place them myself too.

In FC5, there is no need to create those symlinks manually unless the xorg-x11-server-sdk RPM wasn't installed *before* installing the nvidia driver. The only way I can reproduce the need to create the symlinks is not installing that RPM.

Thanks,
Lonni

Well, I installed xorg-x11-server-sdk and it didn't make a lickin' difference and tried to reinstall the new driver several time to no avail - hence the symlinks.

Anyway, apart from this, I have been using nvidia linux drivers for years and years (back to GF2-GTS) and this is the first hiccup I have encountered. Pretty damned happy otherwise! Go and have yourself a weekend, netllama. This can wait until Monday!

What does the output from these commands show?
pkg-config --variable=moduledir xorg-server
rpm -qa | grep sdk

Thanks,
Lonni

and

xorg-x11-server-sdk-1.0.1-9

It's a fresh FC5 install. I didn't have this problem with 8178 drivers and earlier, though I can't tell you if I ever had xorg-x11-server-sdk as my harddrive with FC5 upgraded from FC4 karked it a week ago and I had to reinstall.

Not having pkg-config would explain why you needed to create the symlinks manually. Did you have pkgconfig installed before installing the nvidia driver?

pkg-config is part of the pkgconfig RPM. Xorg-7.0 and later (which applies to FC5, not FC4) uses the new modular layout, and requires that drivers determine the location of X modules and drivers based on the output from the pkg-config command I provided. This is the standard for Xorg-7.0, which the nvidia driver obeys.
