Question Garbled Display 1.0-8756 440 Go Samsung X10 Laptop

Hello all,

I'm very grateful for the advice i've already found here by searching but I still have a problem with the new drivers.

They are the first drivers that have actually allowed X to run successfully but the display is sadly corrupted. I'm booting into Ubuntu (Dapper Drake) and when X starts I see 75% brown screen, the rest is a thick black vertical band at the far right, and there is a horizontal artifact that stretches left to right across the whole screen. The cursor occasionally appears as a white thin line top to bottom of screen.

I installed the drivers using the wonderful script found on the Dapper Drake dev forums by a chap called tseliot, very clever guy.

I've included my xorg log file, the installer log file, and my xorg.conf and modprobe.d/options files should be here too.

Here are the best specs I can find for my laptop screen and card:

LCD
14.1" XGA

Brightness
min.130, typ.150 (cd/m2)
Response time
Rising typ.10ms / max.20ms, Falling typ.30ms / max.50ms
Graphics Controller
Nvidia Ge Force4 Go 440 64MB
Video Memory
Integrated 64MB / 32MB DDR

4x AGP support
Graphics Data Width
64bit AGP Bus / 64bit VRAM interface
Max.Resolution for External Monitor

Please help me, I'd love to get these drivers going, this is the closest I've ever got.

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5

and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

It looks like this is the problem:
(--) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA Default Flat Panel (DFP-0): 0 MHz maximum pixel clock

As a result, you're getting a 800x600 mode, which isn't a native mode, and results in the corruption. You can try to work around this by adding the following option to your xorg.conf:
Option "ModeValidation" "NoMaxPClkCheck"

Thanks,
Lonni
