Default Re: Twinview DVI on 6800NU 8756 x86_64 kernel Oops

Same problem here. Asus A8N Deluxe, AMD X2 4200, 2Gig Ram, GeForce 6600 GT 256 MB PCIExpress, two LCD monitor TwinView 1280X1024 each, kernel 2.6.16 SMP, Nvidia driver 8756.
With kernel 2.6.15 and driver 8178 it's OK..

I also have a Geforce 6600 GT, I think its an XFX, but I'm not sure.... Twinview 1280x1024 dual DVI on Sun 19" LCDs w/ kernel 2.6.16, 2.6.15 shows the same problem.... 8178 works fine with 2.6.15....

yeah its an XFX the susbsystem_vendor is 0x1682, which is the pine group or XFX
and the subsystem_device is 0x216F and I have no idea what that one is as its XFX internal....

I've reproduced this problem, and bug 222251 is now open for the issue.

Thanks,
Lonni

I believe that I have confirmed the same kernel oops issue on an XFX 6600GT. Symptoms are that the screen goes black, but ssh/etc still respond. nvidia-bug-report.sh hangs after problem starts (hence attached report is before running startx). Problem only happens on DVI connection (works fine if connected to analog monitors via adapter). Diligently tried all manner of various xorg configuration params (including enabling/disabling twinview) to no avail. Same on 2.6.16.9 and 2.6.16.11 and downgrading to 8178 no longer works with newer kernels.

I'd love to see this resolved....this is a newly built machine and it's unfortunate that I can't even run X with a digital connection.

Is there a URL for tracking the previously mentioned defect?

Thanks in advance,

I'm afraid that the bug is not publicly viewable. The bug is under active investigation, and we hope to have it resolved for the next driver release.

Thanks,
Lonni
