1.0-8756 requires that all modes have unique names. 1024x764 will default to the lowest refresh rate in the EDID of your display. If 1024x764@100Hz is a valid native mode in your CRT's EDID, then requesting a "1024x764_100" mode in your X configuration should provide 1024x764@100Hz.

If you have additional questions or problems, please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.
