Yes, Render/Composite work perfectly, and speedily.
Yes, OpenGL apps still work, and maybe even a bit more smoothly (using 7667 until now).
Yes, the installer is MUCH faster and less annoying!

Have yet to try TwinView and my projector, but I've always been able to get things to work properly.

Thanks again everyone on these threads also for the continued input and solutions!

Well, nice to know it works for somebody...

Do you have / have you tried any TV out?

Have not tried TVout yet.
CRT (projector) works perfectly.
KDE transparency works perfectly.
PM is kinda fishy though, not really turning off backlight...ever.

No complaints here, except maybe that EDID still not working and I'm forced to force things.

Everything still working without a hitch.

It may be advisable to everyone who has any problems to turn off EDID and such, and set things manually.

I just wanted to note that using the configuration listed above also works on my Toshiba 5105-s607 (32MB 440 Go, driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8774-pkg1.run).

The only problem I encountered is that when starting fullscreen games, the screen starts to progressively degrade - almost like an analog TV that is getting a weaker and weaker signal - until it is unreadable. This only happens at the start of games, or between loading segments. Once the game actually starts, the display is fine.

I've worked around the problem by switching the games to windowed mode. It seems to happen with all fullscreen games (I tried about a dozen). Fullscreen video playback (mplayer, xine, vlc) is not impacted.

The other issue I noted is that performance is significantly decreased. Using the legacy driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7184-pkg1.run), glxgears reports about 2100fps right after boot. Using the 8774 driver I get about 1650fps. However, there is no noticible impact on the games or video, so I'm not concerned by that.

I wanted to thank Dr. Tyrell for posting the working configuration and the Nvidia developers for the driver that lets my older hardware remain useful.
